I thought for years that he made that too, but Q-Tip cleared it up and said Jam & Lewis basically heard some Dilla tracks during recording and mimicked his swing and style to make that song.

When he heard they bit his sound, he made the remix to show them he could make his own version. He wasn't happy with how they tried to run with his whole formula back then.
Yup. Jam & Lewis heard the Brand New Heavies song on the radio, damn near crashed their car being so amazed by it, then went to the studio and made the Got Til Its Gone beat that very same night :russ:

Dilla was so salty he let the rumor he ghost proudced it fester on some "MJ pretending LaBradford Smith talked shyt to him and dropped 57 on him" shyt :lolbron:

The Light…just bc we’ve heard it a million times doesnt downplay how surreal it is

It took me getting older to realize Dilla isnt (or shouldn’t be) just praised on some ‘let’s give him props bc he died’. Nah he is EASILY the best producer of all time. Easily.

He has no trademark 1 dimensional sound. Something I don’t think any truth producer can say. He can morph into whatever you want. No ghost producers either. I didn’t realize his brilliance until I’d look up songs I loved for years and found out Dilla did them :ohhh::wow:
Yeah he's got more styles than any other producer. I was always surprised when I found out he did Much More.

I remember RZA said Dilla was just about the only person who got the nuances of his style. He also did a great Premo imitation here:

?Uestlove said Dilla studied every producer - with Premo he got the nuances of how whenever he samples some jazz shyt he always has some shrill noise on the 4, and then an even shriller noise on the 8 :russ: and then all the weird ass sound effect samples throughout. Dilla usually does smooth, laid back shyt but then that sounds like a beat Premo made for Group Home

All these tracks are stellar. Ima go with the unsung Q Tip Lets Ride. Always love the bounce of the drums and melody is fire.

Didn’t know folks held Get Dis Money in a high regard. My favorite track off that album is Conant Gardens. That guitar riff it’s just… infectious.

Dilla is dope

Had us all thinking he was working with Janet. I didn't know the truth for like 20 years! HAHA!!
