The Light…just bc we’ve heard it a million times doesnt downplay how surreal it is

It took me getting older to realize Dilla isnt (or shouldn’t be) just praised on some ‘let’s give him props bc he died’. Nah he is EASILY the best producer of all time. Easily.

He has no trademark 1 dimensional sound. Something I don’t think any truth producer can say. He can morph into whatever you want. No ghost producers either. I didn’t realize his brilliance until I’d look up songs I loved for years and found out Dilla did them :ohhh::wow:
Took me long to realize how great he is too. One of the best in this hip hop shyt. Then he made the classic Janet “got til it’s gone”

I thought for years that he made that too, but Q-Tip cleared it up and said Jam & Lewis basically heard some Dilla tracks during recording and mimicked his swing and style to make that song.

When he heard they bit his sound, he made the remix to show them he could make his own version. He wasn't happy with how they tried to run with his whole formula back then.

Yea that remix Dilla/Tip did of the Brand New Heavies' Sometimes earlier that year most definitely inspired it.
