Go with a six cylinder Toyota Camry or cousin Lexus ES. No need for embellishments, low insurance rates,and with minimal service attention, you'll get ROI when it's time for junior to move on to his next ride.

everyone's already said camry, civic, corolla, accord, mazda3, crown vic, grand marquis, etc.

here's a suggestion which is just as safe/reliable and he'll love a lot more - third gen ls430, maybe even fourth gen ls460 (just don't get one with air suspension, the maintenance will ruin the value prop)

edit: third gen miata's another option, they're slow and the insurance on them is gonna be nothing. avoid the first two gens, they're death traps in comparison.

also gonna tag @Schadenfreude cause he's the only poster who actually knows shyt about cars
