That's because they specialize in one field and the others don't. They sell higher quality electronics and more selection of them.

Yep.

As much as people shyt on stores like Best Buy, there will always be a place for a retailer that has products on hand that you can just go get, or pick up same day.

Or better yet, for stuff like appliances, TVs, etc., sometimes you really just want or need to actually see the thing you're gonna buy before you buy it.

That’s what kept Sears in the game as long as it did even after terrible management.

Facts. And really, the management is the difference. They're obviously not perfect, but they appear to be trying to switch it up to fit into the current marketplace. Ultimately, the company itself will probably end up being alright, but there will probably be a more layoffs like this as they try to balance everything out, unfortunately.

Yeah they have a mall anchor model that isn’t going to thrive in today’s market place. I think they have enough money to build independent shops though or at least move operations to the “city center” models that have been popping up here in Houston.

Best buy isn't going anywhere. It has name recognition and it's where ppl with disposable income go to buy electronics.

Laying off thousands of workers is what all retailers and other industries where physical footprint becomes less important are doing. You're going to see this happening everywhere. Space must be maximized for profit. I did some work with a company that is doing this for Walgreens. The pandemic made these companies realize that their stores are massive but do not drive sales/profits sufficient to justify the square footage. So now some sections will be removed completely and replaced by higher margin items or more likely SERVICES.
