I thought the suicide squad movie actually portrayed that part of the character quite well.

I like when deathstroke has to kill someone close to superman and the mission always goes astray, then he and supes have a throwdown. It always ends in no contest but it's fun to see how deathstroke finds a way to one up superman and escape.
