Madvillainy with mf doom and cocaine piñata with freddie gibbs are my two favorites.

A lot of people will put Madvillain over MadGibbs, and it may technically be the better album but I really like Gibbs' more harsh raps over Madlib's beats. I think it's a perfect pair and it was my favorite album of 2014. You probably won't skip a song and it has a perfect blend of beats and raps.

But Madvillainy also is arguably THE best "underground" hip hop album ever, and definitely an easy pick for best of the 00's along with maybe one of Little Brother's first 2 albums.

Piñata is more traditional album format. It still has the signature interludes and beat changes. But Madvillainy is more unique. Not really a lot of hooks on the album, lots of random interludes and samples pulled from old TV shows and cartoons. Things like that. It's more blunted and trippy. Pinata is more straightforward

In Search of Stoney Jackson by Strong Arm Steady is probably the most underrated album produced by Madlib in recent years IMO.

He's on that Preem shyt for the most part. Outside of Doom, most of his production has gone to aight to eh talents. Dudley Perkins meshes really well with Madlib's sound, I think.

I made a post addressing this along time ago because I think honestly most producers are on that shyt to some degree. Most of them give a fukk about lyrics or monster emcees.

A lot of great producers se to like doing albums with ppl they think will sound good over their stuff, or they want to try a sound, or its someone they get along with, etc. i've heard a few notable producers say "man I just want someone they can find a groove are right the pocket that sounds good on my stuff and is fun to work with"

Like I was really bummed when Kanye and Jay pumped up those Madlib joints for watch the throne but never used em.

Coli really doesn't fukk with 'Champion Sound' like that? :leon:

The Unseen, Madvillainy and Pinata are all dope to me.

I'm a big fan of the albums he's been producing in their entirety for the consistent vibe on them. And they all sound different from each other.
Heard he was doing one with Roc Marciano awhile back, but it never materialised. shyt would have been :ohlawd:

Closest we got:

Never knew about that Marci and Madlib album. Guess it's gone the same way as the Marci Alchemist album.

I like Champion Sound. It sounds unfinished and the lyrics aren't that special, but just 2 guys vibing off each other's music and kicking flows is what's so cool about it.

That and the Professionals album were what I was looking forward to most.:sadbron:

Anyone here mess with that Rock Konducta joint from about a year ago?
I still have hope he'll release those 2 on his Madlib Invazion imprint. I particularly long for the Supreme Team project cause I heard some joints off of it he played at a show I attended in Paris in '09
I assume since he parted ways with Stones Throw some projects they were supposed to release had to take a seat back due to contractual shyt (Madvillainy 2 being another one)
I remember Dudley posted once somewhere - dunno if it was his myspace or other - that ST even had the rights on the Madlib name. I guess they worked that one since Rock Konducta - that was dope to me - is on sale on ST' website.
Noticeably less warm than his usual sound yet still had some standout joints
like this minimalistic one
