I'll also say that while I like Dolph, I think the thing keeping him from the main event scene more than his offense or psychology is the fact he doesn't have a character.
He's arrogant, "steals the show" & "shows off."
Thats cool and lays the foundation for a character, but who are you, dude?

and even that feels artificial. a show off in the eyes of whom? the neckbeards? the smarks? those completely removed from the story and only focus on technical ability?

but ask yourself this. if you were 5 years old, or if you were a mark... in what way is this guy the "show off"? he's not flashy, he's not flamboyant, he's not charismatic, and he spends the majority of the time getting his ass beat. someone like rick rude was more of a show off, posing and shaking his ass after every time he laid someone out with a power move. like it were easy for him.

nothing ziggler does ever looks easy.

an example of someone "stealing the show" with a high spot would be mick foley during KOTR 98. but for the life of me i cannot recall one instance where a ppv was finished and it left me saying... "man, did you see dolph ziggler last night!?!?!"

Uncertain grounds
I like Dolph.
I remember reading guys raving about how he was making the IC title relevant again, but now he's somehow deplorable.
The guy is an upper mid-carder at his peak. I've always conceded that as a fan of his.
He was arguably the most over guy on the roster after Survivor Series, but they shortly "fired" him afterwards & removed him off of television.
Dolph is the guy who isn't a consistent main eventer, but you can stick him in a main event and he doesn't look out of place.
I'd even say he'd be worthy of a transitional title run with the right angle.
He always makes his opponents look terrific and could be the stepping stone for guys transitioning from the midcard to the main event
His biggest hurdle is his booking & his mouth.
He doesn't know when to shut up and his booking almost always goes to the dumps when he gains significant momentum.
Dolph would be among the two or three guys I'd build my upper midcard around.

Edit: I'll also say that while I like Dolph, I think the thing keeping him from the main event scene more than his offense or psychology is the fact he doesn't have a character.
He's arrogant, "steals the show" & "shows off."

That's it... That's why you always hear guys praise his bumping and nothing else.. People think bumping takes a special talent, it's basic wrestling training. It's one of the first things you learn when becoming a pro wrestler.. Dolph has always been an average talent and that's why you'll never see him make it past the mid-card, there's always going to be guys better than him.

I put Morrison slightly over Ziggler. His current midcard spot seems appropriate for him.

His only memorable promo (if you could even call it that) was when he roasted AJ

this is a great template for these hoes. just send this when you have no words

I think it was the dolph/harper ladder match this year (or was it last year?)... where dolph was in "agonizing pain" on the outside of thte ring... that is until he saw harper climb the ladder at which point he got up on his feet and ran FULL SPEED AHEAD... got BACK in the ring, and practically RAN up the ladder, stopping harper from grabbing the title.

which raises the question if you could climb the ladder that fast after being severely hurt, then why at the beginning of the match when you're fresh do you take slow, methodical baby steps.

as a self admitted mark, things like that irk me.

If you watch the shows close enough almost everyone is no-selling or not applying proper ring psychology during matches. But every one wants modern mat classics with high paced action and limited amount rest spots/selling so its just the state of pro wrestling in my view.

you are right, that is the current state of the game.

but is that what the fans want or is that just all the wwe is capable of giving them right now?

You know what I think its a combination of things I think most of these guys learned and grew up watching that style. Also WWE talent pool has shifted from Taller tatted muscle guys to ring technicians/Indy darlings so the work done in the ring will show that shift. Not to mention the current sociatial belif that people have shorter attettion spans has also helped in the shift.

I think having faster pace matches is dope if done right and its not a constant spot fest. I think they need to be like early 90s wcw instead of early TNA Xdivsion on the work rate spectrum.

cena got classics man. never understand this logic.
His classics are with superior wrestlers. Hes on an excellent roster with most of the prominent guys in the midcard having 10-15 years of experience its hard not to have a classic with that. Cena can keep up with anyone in the world but his offense is sloppy looking and has only gotten marginally better in the past 11 years. Keeping up with a great wrestler doesnt make you great, it makes you a good hand.

If youre going to criticize Dolph for not being great Cena shouldnt get a pass either.

No hate on the guy, It's time to dead this "Dolph is being held back" or not given a fair chance talking point. He takes ridiculous bumps and makes power moves look like death but there is much more to being an in-ring performer. His offense SUCKS and it's not just the moveset. It's also poor execution. He damn near misses on the zig-zag half the time.

His selling is okay but inconsistent. He will sell an injury but then back on offense he forgets about it. Then there's the mic work, I'll be nice and say he's average. His delivery is pretty terrible. The best thing he ever did was call AJ trash. :francis:

I think Dolph's right where he should be. Lower end of the midcard. He's a solid guy to have on the roster but this main event push a lot of people on the internet claim he should be receiving... no.
There's many more guys who are flat out better than he is. :manny:

didn't read not one post and I came in here to say NOTHING, his look is stupid and he has no offence of mic skills, its like he is close but something is missing.. I agree he aint being held back
