The N.O
You spelled her name wrong.

She doesn’t capitalize her name for whatever odd reason. It has always kinda annoyed me :francis:
She put the name in lowercase letters "to distinguish [herself from] her great-grandmother." She said that her unconventional lowercasing of her name signifies that what is most important to focus upon is her works, not her personal qualities: the "substance of books, not who I am." Take from that what you want

a fraction of younger black feminists/womanists etc have basically taken aspects of her work and morphed into their own mantra

some of them have expanded upon it in a sense pick up where she left off on theories of intersectionality (?)

some have used it to break down the role capitalism plays in gender politics

and some have used it as an excuse to shyt on brehs

the latter obviously a breh is gonna come more in contact with because sensationalism and animosity always is gonna grab people's attention, and understandable so.

especially with social media

TL;DR she actually was criticizing the concept of the patriarchy and how it "entraps" men to these unreasonable standards and felt that race and class needed to be addressed in the grand scheme of things.

What did Bell Hooks do that has so may of y’all in a tizzy?

School me cuz I’ve never read any of her work.

Bell hooks on black men in the Central Park 5 case

bell hooks on Central Park 5:

"No one can truly believe that the young black malesinvolved in the Central Park incident were not engagedin a suicidal ritual enactment of a dangerousmasculinity that will ultimately threaten their lives, their well-being. If one reads again Michael Dyson's piece "The Plight of Black Men," focusing especially on the part where he describes the reason many young black

men form gangs-"the sense of absolute belonging
and unsurpassed love"-it is easy to understand whyyoung black males are despairing and nihilistic.

And itis rather naive to think that if they do not value their own lives, they will value the lives of others. Is it really so difficult for folks to see the connection between the constant pornographic glorification of male violence against women that is represented, enacted, and condoned daily in the culture and the CentralPark crime?"

Politics" p. 106.
