It's far worse than 15 years ago. I think US is kind of safe (except from Americans) but Europe totally fukked up with turning its back to the Arab-Muslim world. Europe's historical interest is having good understanding with the Middle-East and North of Africa, can't treat our neighbours like the US because we don't have an ocean to separate us, and Europe and that region have century-long cultural and political relations that we've just thrown away for lack of a long-term strategy. (This is of course operating with the flawed assumption that daesh and others give two shyts about historic and current injustices in Africa below the Sahara.) Look at the pictures and read the names of survivors, bystanders and rescuers and it obvious a significant number of non-whites have been heavily impacted.
