I got a scholarship to a heavily upper class private school in 02 where there were over 1,000 students and only 6 black people. Myself being one of the six. Of course on the first day I was late, rolled into class and the room fell completely silent. Similar to when that Muslim dude with the turban walked into economy on Soul Plane actually .

The ignorant questions are just life man. If I had a fiver for everytime an ignorant white asked me "why are the back of your hands black but the front of them white?"

Be you but do your best to ignore it. It will help you long-term.

I went to a very diverse college. But I majored in biology, so throughout my tenure I was in class with only cacs and asians. I was the only black guy in all my major classes Physics, organic chemisty, statistics, calculus and various genetics, evolution and immunology classes with labs to follow.

Needless to say, Back when I was in college I dressed like a typical NY thug, all black, baggy clothes, fitted hats, cornrows etc. I didn't talk much and stayed with the face. Mind you this was like 02-06ish. Don't judge me. I always looked like I didn't belong or "fit" in these classes stereotypically, because I was the only black person, a guy, and I dressed thuggish, but it didn't bother me, but I know the other students/ teacher felt that way in their mind. I would sit in class, and be the last person other students sit next to, unless the had no other choice. And even when they did they would inch their desks away from me somewhat, but try and play it off by sitting and moving the desk at the same time.

Cac and asian students used to stay having the face when test and term paper grades would come back, and they grades weren't any where near fukkin with mine. I used to be like when grades came back and I would see their faces . Best feeling in the world, trust me. All of a sudden, they want a nikka in they study groups and shyt. I was like

I don't anymore, but twas the style back then and most of my immediate friends at the time were street dudes and small-time hustlers I knew from high school still tryn to be thugs.

But yeah man, you gotta stick it to em and prove them wrong. That alone gave me motivation to get through college. The first days of classes, you get them "he don't belong, he ain't gon last til the end of semester" looks from your classmates.

Yeah, they act like its some impossible feat for you to be better than them at something academic. Especially Asians. When they don't do well on something that you do well on. Hmm I should have taken another poli sci course this semester for the heck of it. I wouldn't really run into the same opposition as OP though, every professor out here has openly "liberal" stances. Or overwhelming lean to the left.......

I love looking kinda cut/aggressive in math and sciences (just copped an undercut, and im on my cut). It's the best cause so many STEM nerds are but there are some fine bishes in Bio classes and they're since all they see are stuttering wimps all day. I'm more concerned with teachers thinking I'm dumb because I keep in shape, but obviously I dont have to deal with it on the same level as you since you're black.

Interesting you say that about the Poli Sci courses. All of my poli sci professors for my B.A. were conservative as hell for the most part. Department here is pretty libertarian.

Im at UMD right now and Im Mechanical Engineering and aint too many blacks in alot of my classes either (well my age at least), hardly any females neither I swear Aerospace, Mech, EE, and CE are the worst majors for young black males socially, hardly any of "your kind" and no bytches neither, nikka be walking in class on the first day like . Thats why for my CORE credit this semester I signed up for some easy ass education class, I walk in thinking finally a chance to be in class with some breezys and then to my dismay its one good looking joint in the class

Random, but my engineering brehs....how you nikkas eating? Thinking of applying to get a masters in biochemical, biomedical or chemical engineering. If the money aint right then its pharmacy school. Need some honest feedback.

I'm eating good. There's always a need for mechanical/aerospace engineers anyway. The key is being willing to relocate, as some states have more tech jobs than others. That's why I moved to Philly (not exactly a tech hub but there's Boeing, Lockheed and bunch of other engineering companies here).
There are more opportunities in other states (CT, CO, CA, AL, FL) but I'm a northeast city guy

Definitely not hitting on bytches in lecture. I'm in the first 3 rows on some zen shyt. I know it looks kinda fruity, but ive started using colored pens to make my notes. It really, really helps with drawings/diagrams of cellular/molecular processes and when i want to make a point of differentiation or emphasis in my notes. Makes a huge difference for me.

I'm in Tennessee.... But you're right either way. That being said its still atypical for a liberal arts department in a liberal arts college to have such leanings in my mind...

i can relate to this except i wasn't as anti-social. But yeah the feeling of consistently getting the best grades in class seeing the look from classmates.

lol i did this with "hispanic studies" and i swear there were times the teacher would say shyt then look over my way for confirmation lol.

one of my classmates (a friend of mine) would tell the teacher to hold on while he checked his sources, then pretend go grab a book and then lean over to me. I'd give a nod and he'd tell the teacher to proceed, kids and teacher in that class were cool as fuk though can't hate.
