I’m puzzled as to why ‘Argylle’ would market someone like Dua Lipa as the film’s main selling point, as if she has a recognizable brand of her own. She’s also hardly in the movie. Weird.

A Low Scoring Super Bowl Weekend at the Box Office: Box Office Results (Feb. 9-11)​

Argylle has done with no other theatrically released Apple TV movie has done: finish number one... twice. It did so this Super Bowl weekend with a poultry $6.5M. But a winners win and for Argylle, it's two for two. However, its $28.8M after 2 weeks trails Flowers of the Killer Moon's $40.9M and Napoleon's $45.8M. So, like last week, the apple is falling far from the tree. Sorry @Realm-Breaker

Taking second place was Lisa Frankenstein with only $3.8M. The Kathryn Newton vehicle, you know her as Cassie from the bad Ant-Man, only scored a B CinemaScore. Not far off from the B- of 2020's Freaky. That movie was like a little, tiny, glimmer of hope back during the Hong Kong Flu. That Newton movie opened with $3.6M in only 2,472 theaters. That $1,456 per theater beat Lisa Frankenstein's $1,208. That was enough for the top spot. It was also #1 the following week.




The Beekeeper held on to the 3rd spot again with $3.4M. Its $54.7M running total has doubled up the $27.4M of Statham's Wrath of Man. Wrath of Man's global total of $103.9M also fell to The Beekeeper's $114.7M.

Fresh off of a 2nd place opening, The Chosen: Season 4 debut 3 episodes, took fourth place with $3.1M. The Chosen continues to be a money maker for a Fathom Events with $12.5M.

Wonka, now on-demand, took fifth place with $3.1M. It's up to $205.2M. It's a little over a million away from overtaking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's $206.4M. It's closing in on $600M worldwide with $587.5M.

The Numbers has the Dune IMAX re-release making $1.6M from 2,100 theaters. Making way for Dune: Part 2 in March.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom fell to 11th place with $1M in its 8th weekend, being out gained by Poor Things' $1.1M and American Fiction's $1.3M in their 10th and 9th weekends, respectively.

With $870K, Night Swim had cracked $30M.

Disney put Turning Red in 1,560 theaters; it made $535K. That beats last month's Soul release, which made $431K from only 1,350 theaters.

Bob Marley Leaves Spider-less Madame Tangled in a Web of Lies: Weekend Box Office Results (Feb. 16-18)​

Fresh off of a 43% rotten, rotten tomatoes score, Bob Marley: One Love, had no problem securing the top spot with $27.7M. It debuted on Valentine's Day, when it made $14M. But damn the critics; audiences loved it, obviously. It got an A CinemaScore. All told, it's at $45.5M. Good for Kingsley Ben-Adir. Couple wins with this and Barbie after the streaming pile of Disney+ shyt that was Secret Wars.

That means Madame Web took 2nd with $15.1M. After a $6M Valentine's Day, it's up to $23.3M. That $15.1M is 61% worse than Morbius' $39M opening. And they both got identical C+ CinemaScores. Morbius had terrible legs. It didn't even make 2x its opening weekend and finished with $73.8M. If Madame Web follows suit, this shyt may not even make $30M. Sydney Sweeney and Sony will always have Anyone But You.

You flopped. That's what's going on.

That means Argylle's run is done with a $4.7M, 3rd place finish. Its $36.4M running total is 30% behind Killers of the Flower Moon's $52.2M after 3 weeks. It's 31% behind Napoleon's $53M pace. But, hey, it'll still those 2 weekend wins.

Another week, another 3 episodes of The Chosen finishing in the top 5. This time it was Season 4-Episodes 4-6 raking in $3.4M. That's better than the $2.7M Episodes 1-3 made last weekend but 42% off its $5.9M debut two weeks ago. Diminishing returns in effect.

'Bob Marley' is the Actual 'Demon Slayer': Weekend Box Office Results (Feb. 23-25)​

We're a week away from Dune: Part 2 coming to save the box office. Until then, Bob Marley is doing just fine. With $13.5M, One Love, is two for two. With a $71.1M running total, it's approaching 2.5x its $28.6M opening weekend. Its racked up $120.5M worldwide.

Sony occupied 2nd place last week with Madame Web. It does the same this week with Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training opening with $11.5M from 1,949 theaters. Last March, Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village made $10.1M from 1,774 venues. Pretty remarkable consistency for this franchise in the last year. Audiences also gave both movies the same B+ CinemaScore. You know Sony is thanking they lucky stars with this result, on top of Anyone But You sitting at $199.8M worldwide.

Lionsgate's Ordinary Angels debuted in third with $6.5M. This shyt was based on a true story and stars Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, aka, Reacher. Jon Gunn, of Jesus Revolution the Kurt Warner movie, writes and directs this time. Like those two films before it, audiences gave Ordinary Angels an A+ CinemaScore. But this failed to bring in more moviegoers, as last year's Jesus Revolution opened with $15.8M en route to a $52.1M finish.




Falling to fourth place was Madame Web with a $6M second weekend. That may sound embarrassing but it was "only" a 60.9% drop which I consider a win for Sony and Madame Web. Yeah, it didn't open like Morbius, but Morbius fell 73.8% in its second weekend when it made $10.2M. Venom: Let There Be Carnage fell by 64.7%. On the MCU side, The Marvels dropped by 78.1% when it made $10.1M in weekend #2. Domestically, with $35.4M, Madame Web has yet to make back half of its $80M budget but it has made 2.3x it $15.3M opening weekend. So it's not completely dead.

Migration flew past Argylle to take fifth place with $3M. With $120.4M, it's shown great legs, making 7x its $12.4M opening weekend. Those are better legs than Elemental showed when it made 5.2x its $29.6M opening weekend, on the way to $154.4M. As it stands, Migration is Illumination's 2nd worst performer domestically, and worldwide, only ahead of Hop. It could a been a lot worse, though.

Chalamet Saves the Day in Villeneuve's Dune: Part 2: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar.1-3)​

Dune: Part Two is here and it did better than expected with an $81.5M opening. That was up from the $76M estimate on Saturday morning and $80M estimate Saturday night. That means it juuuuust missed out on doubling up Dune: Part One's $41M opening. It did secure a straight A CinemaScore, beating Part One's A-.

Part Two's opening already has it in good company. It's already brought in $178.5M globally, which passes Dune: Part One's $109.9M domestic total. The $81.5M opening makes it the 3rd highest grossing movie this year, behind Bob Marley's $82.7M and Wonka's $83.6M. Of course, Wonka was also released by Warner Bros. and it also stars Timothee Chalamet. Paramount has Tom Cruise. Sony has Tom Holland. Now Warner Bros. has Timothee Chalamet.

Bob Marley's reign is over at the top spot, so it settles for a distant 2nd place with $7.4M . As previously mentioned, it's up to $82.7M, which is the most for a 2024 release.

Ordinary Angels held down the third spot for the second weekend in a row. This time it made $3.8M. I have no interest in this movie but that's a nice hold, only dropping about 37.5%. It's also doubled its $6.1 million opening weekend with a $12.5 million running total.

Madame Web held down 4th place again with $3.2M. It's grossed $40.4M. It's holding on and has shown better legs than the front-loaded Morbius, which only made 1.89x its $39M opening weekend, finishing with $73.8M. Madame Web is also closing in on $100M worldwide with a $91M running total.

Another weekend, another couple of episodes of The Chosen: Season 4. This weekend were the final 2 episodes, #7 and 8, which did $3.1M. The diminishing returns continue for the franchise. Season's 3 Finale, a single episode, had a $3.6M opening last year. Season 4: Episodes 1-3 opened with $5.9M, while Episodes 4-6 did $3.6M.

'Kung Fu Panda 4' Earns Black Belt; Butterfly Kicks 'Dune 2' Out the Kwoon: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar. 8-10)​

For the first time in 8 years, Po, the Kung Fu Panda, is back in movie theaters with Kung Fu Panda 4. There's no Angelina Jolie or Lucy Liu this time around but that didn't stop the kids from seeing it and making it number one with $58.3M. That's the franchise's 2nd best opening, behind Kung Fu Panda's $60.2M in 2008. Interestingly enough, audiences gave KFP4 the same A- CinemaScore as KFP, which was slightly down from the straight A's of KFP2 and KFP3.

Universal knew what they were doing, distributing Kung Fu Panda 4. They're tryna take that number one spot again this year. The $85M budget, the first in the franchise below $100M, will only help matters. It's a stark departure for a anchor animation film to have a budget that low when every Pixar movie is alloted $200M off rip.

Sliding down to 2nd place was Dune: Part 2 with $46M in its 2nd weekend. That's an excellent -44.2% hold. Dune: Part 1 fell by 62.4% in its second weekend when it made $15.4M and finished in first place. With $157M so far, Part 2 has made 44% more than Part 1's $108.8M total. The spice is flowing now.

We got the new Lionsgate horror movie, Imaginary, taking 3rd place with a $10M opening. Lionsgate. Really? I woulda thought that was definitely a Blumhouse joint. Lemme check Wikipedia... It was co-produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. I knew it.

It scored a C+ with audiences, better than Night Swim's C. Despite the inferior CinemaScore, Night Swim did $11.7M opening weekend en route to $32.4M and counting. Maybe $30M is in the cards. I mean, I can imagine it.

Cabrini opened in 4th with $7.5M. Shout out to David Morse, my Massachusetts homie, playing Archbishop Corrigan.




Bob Marley: One Love closed out the top five with $4M. With $89.3M, it's this year's 2nd highest grossing film, behind Dune: Part 2 and ahead of Wonka's $84.6M.

It's certainly unified the moviegoers.

Kung Fu Panda 4 TKO's Dune 2 in Final Round: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar. 15-17)​

Kung Fu Panda 4 is 2 for 2, at least for the time being, with a $30M second weekend, narrowly holding off Dune: Part 2. With $107.7M and counting, it's passed its $85M production budget and is 55% ahead of Kung Fu Panda 3's $69.2M 2-week pace.

That means Dune: Part 2 takes 2nd place for the 2nd weekend in a row. This time with $29.1M. That's $205.3M after 3 weeks, which passes the $190M production budget. It's thiiiiisss close to $500M worldwide with $494.7M so far.

Mark Whalberg's Arthur the King opened in 3rd place with $7.5M. That's a far cry from the $14.8M Channing Tatum's Dog opened to in 2022. It's especially disappointing when audiences gave this new dog movie an A CinemaScore compared to Dog's A-.




Imaginary took 4th place with $5.6M in its 2nd weekend. That's a -43.5% hold which is great for a horror flick. It's also a better 2nd weekend than Night Swim's $4.6M. The two are virtually equal after 2 weeks: Imaginary with $19.08M and Night Swim with $19.1M.

Cabrini closed out the top five with $2.8M. That makes $13M after two weeks for the paisan pic.

Another black movie, another flop. The American Society of Magical Negroes was anything but with a putrid $1.2M.

Madame Web fell from top ten to not mentioned at all, finishing in 12th place with a $400K fifth weekend. It only made $98K more than the $302K Oppenheimer made, a movie in its 35th weekend.

Very solid holds for Kung Fu Panda and Dune. The legs on Dune 2, mean a 3rd film is pretty much certain whenever Denis is ready to do it.

Ghostbusters should take the top spot next week, before losing it to Godzilla/Kong the following week.

If You Need a Jolt at the Box Office - Who Ya Gonna Call? Ghostbusters: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar. 22-24)​

Spring is in the air. Snow is on the ground. The Ghostbusters are in town, which is fitting because this new entry in the series is called Frozen Empire. And with a $45.2M opening, it had no problem taking the top spot. That opening is remarkably consistent with the last two entries in the franchise. Ghostbusters: Afterlife, opened to the tune of $44M in 2021. The 2016 reboot Ghostbusters, did $46M. Right in the middle.

Speaking of consistency - audiences gave the new one a B+ CinemaScore, same as the 2016 reboot but behind Afterlife's A-. The only downside? Frozen Empire's $100M production budget, which is 33% higher than Afterlife's modest $75M. Sony was probably looking for a little bit more, especially with Dune: Part 2 in its 4th weekend.

Speaking of Dune: Part 2, it keeps doing numbers, with another $17.6M. That makes a $233.3M running total - $100M clear of Kung Fu Panda 4 for the top spot in 2024.

That same Kung Fu Panda 4 finished in 3rd place with $16.7M. With $133.3M banked so far, KFP4 is $10M away from Kung Fu Panda 3's $143.5M total.

Sydney Sweeney is back in the top five, this time with Immaculate, which opened to $5.3M. Its C CinemaScore was worse than the C+ audiences gave Imaginary, which opened with $9.9M two weeks ago. But that C score is standard with horror movies so maybe it's worth it for Sydney and her immaculate titties.

Arthur the King, the Mark Wahlberg dog vehicle, rounded out the top five with $4.3M. It's holding pretty decently with $14.6M after a disappointing opening last weekend.
