I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Props to Terrifier. It was only supposed to be out for one week, but the demand was so hot so now multiple theater chains are picking it up and I think most are going to keep it playing throughout the Halloween week. :ehh: Art the Clown's rising popularity might make him the new face of horror for the next couple of years.

Yea I noticed that I believe 1,000 or so more theaters are adding Terrifier 2. And for those of us that need to catch up (including me), the original is on Roku right now

For a randomly weird cash grab, I’m kinda surprised Friday The 13th Part 3 or Freddy’s Dead hasn’t been re-released theatrically cleaned up and given the Real 3D. A brief Halloween season engagement wouldn’t be bad

What's at the Movies this Halloween Weekend? October 28 - 30

Halloween is very nearly upon us and the Box Office is looking a little spooky this weekend. We have 5 horror movies playing: Halloween Ends, Smile, Prey for the Devil, Terrifier 2 and Barbarian. We also see the re-release of The Bad Guys, which seems appropriate for bringing the kids to the movies on Halloween weekend.

We also see Black Adam continue to play at 4,402 theaters. It's grossed $80.3M domestically and $156.2M worldwide thus far. For it's second weekend, its looking at around $30M. That's in line with Shazam's 54% decline in its second weekend. I was reading Boxoffice Pro, where they were speculating that because Halloween falls on Monday, that people are going to be having parties on the weekend, thus dampening Black Adam's second weekend. We'll see.

Halloween Ends continues to play in 3,400+ theaters, as it looks to pass $60M domestically. I'm still seeing wildly misleading trailers playing as I write this, complete with footage not in the abomination that that movie was. :wow:

Smile is looking to blow past the $90M domestic mark, as it currently sits at $86.6M. I still gotta see this one.

We got the new joint from Lionsgate, Prey for the Devil. Perfect title for Halloween. It'll be playing in 2,980 theaters and looks to bring in between $7-8M. The synopsis is:

A nun prepares to perform an exorcism and comes face to face with a demonic force with mysterious ties to her past.

Jacqueline Byers plays the nun. I've never heard of her.

Then again, I had never heard of Georgina Campbell before I saw Barbarian, and, apart from her accent slipping in the beginning of the movie when she's frantically calling the Airbnb people, she did a good job.

It also has the brev from Resident Evil who got put through the laser slap chop. :wow:

DiscreteAgreeableGelding-max-1mb.gif

Here's the trailer.

Terrifier 2 and Art the Clown jump scare their way to 1,550 theaters. It's looking to bring in $2.4M, as it sits at $5.1M so far. It'll also be out on Streambox on Halloween.

Till is horror of a different kind, as Emmett Till's mother pursues justice for her baby. It expands to 2,058 theaters and looks to gross $3.9M.

The Bad Guys makes its way back to 1,478 theaters. It played in 1,477 theaters on the weekend of June 17-19th, when it made $1M. It's totalled $96.7M domestically and $247.8M worldwide. Maybe the animated bad guys can bring the kids to the movies this weekend.

Call Jane comes to 1,070 theaters. The synopsis:

A married woman with an unwanted pregnancy lives in a time in America where she can't get a legal abortion and works with a group of suburban women to find help.

it stars Elizabeth Banks who, last I saw her, was looking very good on the Press Your Luck show, in this episode in particular :shaq:

On Weekend of Frights, Black Adam Reaches $100 Million Heights: Weekend Box Office Results (Oct. 28-30)

Black Adam has slow motioned it's way to another 1st place finish this Halloween Weekend with $27.7M. That's good for a 58.7% drop from last weekend. It was looking worse after Friday, when it only did $7.4M, which was down 72.1% from last weekend. So, Teth Adam bounced back on Saturday and Sunday like Hawkman taking a beating, dusting himself off, and getting right back to throwing haymakers. :ehh:

Let's look at a few past movies for comparisons sake. The Batman saw a 50.4% decline in its second weekend. Shazam, a more analogous comp, saw a 54.3% drop in it second weekend. Aquaman is really not a fair comparison because it released during Christmas week and only saw 23.2% drop in its second weekend. I know The Suicide Squad was released day and date with HBO Max, where I watched it, but it saw a 71.5% drop in its second weekend. A few months ago, The Rock had the animated DC League of Super-Pets, which declined 52% in its second weekend. Back in 2016, Deadpool saw a 57.4% drop in it's second weekend. The Rock's own Skyscraper, dropped 54.4% back in 2018. A few months prior, Rampage, only fell 43.8%.

Got it?

Good.

Black Adam will enjoy one more weekend at the number one spot before Black Panther 2 comes along on November 11th. As it stands, Black Adam has now grossed $111.1M domestically and $250.1M worldwide, after 10 days. :ehh:

I'm sure Jimmy Gunn and Co. will take that, take that. :takedat:

Give The Rock a round of applause.

black-adam-clap.gif

George Clooney and Julia Roberts' Rom-Com, Ticket to Paradise, held steady in it's second weekend with $10M. It only dropped by 39.4% from its debut weekend. It's now grossed $33.7M and $119.3M domestically and worldwide, respectively. That's on a $60M production budget. So, it's grossed 2 times it's budget as it heads towards being breaking even.

aw-come-on-george-clooney.gif

Sorry, George.

Where's the horror movies? It's All Hallow's Eve for fukk sake. Speak of the devil... We get our first horror entry in the top 5, with Prey for the Devil grossing $7M, good for a 3rd place debut. This shyt is sitting at a less than stellar 5.2 on IMDb right now. Even though this was released on Halloween weekend, I had no interest in seeing it. The only Devil I was watching this weekend was The Devil's Hour on Prime. I highly recommend it.

wink-sister-ann.gif

Coming in 4th, with $5M, was Smile. That was a 40.4% drop from last weekend, where it only declined 32.6% from the prior weekend. That's a sharper Halloween drop than expected. It's still almost to $100M domestically, as it sits at $92.3M. It's approaching the $200M worldwide milestone as it stands at $185.9M. :lupe:
Paramount sitting pretty right now like

creepy-smile-rose-cotter.gif

Grounding out the top 5 (sorry, Mike) was Halloween Ends with another $3.8M. That 52.1% drop is looking much better than the 80% catastrophe that was last weekend. But, last Halloween weekend, Halloween Kills only fell 39.5% as it grossed $8.7M in its third weekend. Mike and Corey have now struggle-slashed, stomped and stabbed their way to $60.3M domestically and $94.6M worldwide. I'm watching the Halloween marathon on AMC right now. :blessed:

halloween-ends-halloween.gif

That's right, Corey. I'm watching "scary" movies. Only, I'm not getting dropped kicked over the railing, as I fall to my death in the foyer. You fukk.

Notables Outside the Top Five

Terrifier 2 did another $1.8M and now has a domestic gross of $7.6M. That was up 2.7% from last weekend.

halloween-halloween-town.gif

In it's expanded release, Till made a disappointing $2.8M.

Call Jane debuted in 14th place with $240K. :picard:
In it's return to theaters, The Bad Guys, made $203K which just beat out Barbarian's $201K.

Noticed it’s last on the list but I really need to catch TÁR soon off the things I’m hearing about Blanchett’s performance. Streets saying it’s the conductor version of There Will Be Blood. :whoo:

@FlyRy You peep this one yet?

What's at the Movies this Weekend? (Nov. 4-6)

Halloween may be over, and it may be 75° here in Boston, but that doesn't mean that horror movies aren't still playing at the box office. We still have Smile, Prey for the Devil, (good pun / double entendre in the title) Halloween Ends and Terrifier 2 seeing wide releases. And, Barbarian is still playing in 160 theaters. It's still spooky season despite the Christmas commercials playing for the last couple of weeks. :wow:

The widest release is Ticket to Paradise which sees an increase to 4,066 theaters. It will pass the $40M mark domestically and $130M mark worldwide this weekend.

Black Adam, the back to back weekend, people's champion, says "Shazam," and loses a little of his power, as he'll be seen in 3,985 theaters. That's down 17 theaters from last weekend. It will still finish 1st for the 3rd consecutive weekend when it passes $130 million domestically.

Smile, which has grossed $95.1M, tries to cross $100M domestically. Projections have it doing $3.4M so it looks like it will come up just short. It'll have to settle for the milestone next week.

We have a new animated release from Crunchyroll, One Piece Film: Red. Directed by Gorô Taniguchi, of Code Geass fame. It will play in 2,400 theaters. The synopsis:

For the first time ever, Uta - the most beloved singer in the world - will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. The voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound.

It's already grossed $149.8M since it was released Internationally in August.

We have another "new" release with Armageddon Time. It's new because it only showed in 6 theaters last week. It adds another 1,000 theaters as it goes wide. I've seen the trailer a couple times on TV and it looks like some late season Oscar bait, especially with them showing Anthony Hopkins imparting wisdom on the little kid who appears to be sticking up for the bullied breh. The synopsis:

A deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream.

The Banshees of Inisherin is the last wide release, which sees the return of Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Martin McDonagh, who teamed up to make In Bruges back in 2008. It expands to 895 theaters. The synopsis:

Two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.

Sounds like some "Mac and Dennis Break Up" shyt. :ehh:

You may need to put the captions on watching the trailer tho. Christopher Nolan be watching this shyt like

dave-chapelle-cant-hear-you.gif

This is some Snatch level shyt. You've been warned.
