Rapping without writing just makes it sound more “natural” i vant explain. Writing can take away ya flow or have you rapping it in a “reading” type of way. Imo if ya gonna write, its best to, but never stick to it 100% to free up ya flow, just get the general point out

It's like giving a speech and reading it off a paper against remembering one. The latter is always better if you can do it that way.

I dunno why other rappers take pride in not writing. 99.9999% of rappers need to be writing. jay-z just happens to be a savant.
Some rappers punch in. Spit a few bars stop come back spit a few more until they get a 16. Memorize it in the studio have their people take out a few lines etc. I don’t think Jay does that. You gotta remember when he rapped with Jaz he rapped faster he probably learned how to write in his head memorize once he slowed it down he really mastered that.

I was watching this earlier. Art has consistently had better interviews than Vlad all year.

Probably hard to be focused when you know you cant be the same person. Its like Michael Jordan sticking around to be a guy who can put up 10 points off the bench. He definitely wasnt the same after losing his voice and delivery which were some of his best attributes:francis:

It must have been before we as the audience ever got material. Im trying to think if i see a noticeable difference from the time i first heard Beans til the time his career ended:patrice:?

But theres a noticeable difference with Jay,and he wasnt writing the whole time. I dont know if i biy into "reading off paper sounds like rapping off paper". It can,but it doesnt have to. I dont think you can actually make it as a proffessional rapper if it sounds like your rapping off paper. Have you ever listened to an artist with a deal and said "Sounds llike they rapping off paper:scust:" lol.

Its truly something i only notice from novice who just started,or people who havent made it
You'd have to pinpoint the time when it happened.. And usually it's a huge level up. You think it's just the lyrics that have improved, but when you're eliminating steps, like taking the time to write it down, read it back to yourself, see if it fits, rap it 15 times to make it fit, eliminate words, scratch this, change that... And then you get in the booth you calculate the time for your brain to see the words, process the words, say them on beat, with the right vocal inflections............

Cut all that shyt out and all you got is the beat and your lyrics.. Your brain has a lot more time to dance on the track, when you're not actively reading and processing

Now what a lot of people do is write, memorize, then go in with no paper.. That does the same thing. But again, you're adding steps with the writing. It's not like you going in there to freestyle. You're still writing the song. You just memorized it without writing it.

Someone to look at is Jadakiss. On Letter to Big, he states he don't write no more. So listen to pre 97 Jada and him now or immediately after. The lyrics/subject matter didn't change but he def stepped up his flows and vocals

Yea that's how Wayne does it. Raps 2 bars in the studio, steps out, thinks of the next two, goes in.... He's doing the same thing but he can't remember a whole song, so he does them quick.. Listen to Young Wayne vs Carter 2 Wayne.. He started playing with the flows and deliveries

But Beans also called that out in this video. "I'm not talking bout going in and doing a couple bars and then coming out... I'm talking bout memorizing the WHOLE SONG."

Brehs it's really not that hard. He gave you the exercise. Think of a bar.. Keep saying till you get the next one. Ok say them both... Keep going till you got 4.. Ok now start over and keep saying that........... so on and so forth

Eventually you'll memorize a song without writing it. Then like anything you do with practice, you'll get better at memorizing things this way and it'll come easier to you. It's not some magic trick.. It's just memorization

Like Beans said, there's a difference between not writing — but having the whole thing ready in your head — and going in the booth trying to piece shyt together; these young buls be doing the latter thinking it's fire.

Joe talks about this very thing in the beginning of this... He's not talking about reading off the paper, but Joe hasn't said he doesn't write...

So the first takes he's clearly sounding like he reading off the paper and Royce gotta fire his ass up.....

You wouldn't get that first bland verse if he had it memorized off top. It's like acting. If you know your lines, they come out MUCH better. It's natural vs reading off cue cards
