From what I read it MAY (I'm in no way condoning it) come from actually being cut off from the rest of Africa for decades. As much as it was apartheid, South Africa has always been the most developped african country. So now with the end of apartheid, SOME Blacks can actually enjoy that level of development. And all of a sudden, you have immigrants coming in, with whom, remember, you have never had any contact for decades because of being shut off from the world.

So you're a more developped country + random foreigners setting up = xenophobia.

For some strange reason people are surprised when xenophobia comes from Africans but unfortunately it's human nature.

Breh no offense but I think you don't know Europe. I see it often on thecoli that brehs think Europe is "one" and that all "whites" are the same. Italians and other southern Europeans were the first victims of xenophobia in Western Europe (with signs like "No dogs or Italians allowed" in Belgium for ex) before the hate was turned to non-Europeans. A wave of anti-Eastern Europeans swept through Western Europe when the EU enlarged to the East. Precisely, UK, French and Belgian politicians were building up fear against the Poles, saying they would "invade"' their countries after the 2004 enlargment. Switzerland has a big anti-Italian movement.There is a deep resentment between some european countries due to history and different levels of development. The fact that it doesn't get more physical is only due to the fact that people aren't as desperate and/or police systems work better, thus people think twice about it.

South Africa JUST opened up so basically they're in a similar situation as when Europe was in the nation-building era, which almost always leads to a "us" vs "them" mentality. One continent's "past" can be another's "present", history is not linear.

It's the same situation in any place where non-whites are marginalized by whites, including right here in America, this has nothing to do with the level of development in South Africa, it's the proximity to whiteness and Black people's insatiable appetite for white love AFTER atrocities committed by white people (apartheid).

apartheid ended and that took pressure off of the Black people living in South Africa with the whites, those Black people mistook that for progress, "we're finally getting a better relationship with the whites", so when other Black people from other parts of the continent show up trying to net the benefits that Black South Africans had to die for, there's resentment between the two groups of Black people, this works wonderfully for white people because as long as Black people are killing each other, while whites are giving them "nikka trinkets" the white people are relatively safe.

As long as there are white people in South Africa in positions of power, this will continue.

this is not entirely true,the rest of africa (zambia, zimbabwe, libya etc) protected and trained south african freedom fighters during apatheid, doors were open for those whose lives were in danger. as an example do you think people like hugh masekela and miriam makeba; musicians who spoke against apatheid, were exiled for many years without any help from black people? their time in exile helped to keep moral up for those back home etc but lets not even act like there were no immigrants in south africa during apatheid..i know a lot of zimbabweans, zambians, malawians and nigerians whose relatives have always lived in south africa.
