Hideki Kamiya, creator of Devil May Cry and its much-loved spiritual successor Bayonetta, has responded to rumours that Sega has canned Bayonetta 2 by teasing the possibility of an imminent announcement.
Spong claimed Sega has halted development on the sequel as part of the publisher's ongoing restructuring process.
But Kamiya took to Twitter via (Spong) to tell followers to keep an eye on "next week's game magazines", suggesting some new information will be revealed very soon.
As much as we'd like to see an announcement we're keeping our excitement in check. We've been burned before by Kamiya. Last year he teased Bayonetta 2 reveals multiple times and we're still waiting.
Fellow Platinum Games producer Atsushi Inaba reacted to the story more intriguingly, posting some mock concept art and the following message (via OXM): "We've heard all the rumors on the net. What do you guys think? Too bad it got cancelled, huh?" Bayonetta lead designer Hideki Kamiya retweeted the image.
The image shows Bayonetta striking a risqué pose with a burly military type fella featuring prominently in the background. Platinum Games fans will recognise the man as Robert Burns from Vanquish, who has a new red eye courtesy of Microsoft Paint. We're pretty sure Inaba is trolling.
Spong said the game was set to feature a new character in the shape of a member of the US military, although it's unclear if it the title was actually in development or in a pre-production design stage.
Kamiya has since posted another Tweet saying "Game that hasn't been announced cannot be canceled,so I know Bayo 2 is safe in your mind-heart and around PG office". This is getting a bit out of hand.
Asked about today's Bayonetta 2 report, Sega simply said "no comment."
