Batman really has the soundtrack game locked down
He is really the only superhero with these kind of albums. You'd think Marvel would wanna have some pop song tie ins but nothin.
It feels like that was very much of a time - this era was when the most meh films had the most soundtracks
Marvel had the Blade joint with rappers over electronic beats. Or maybe the credit for that goes to New Line. Either way - it had potential but didn't really live up to it.
Guardians Of The Galaxy's compilation soundtrack actually did numbers I think
Went platinum but on the real, and this may come off as hating but it's not because I love the soundtrack, it's basically a greatest hits of the 70s and 80s it's not original music so I can't give it as much credit as I do the batman soundtracks or the space jam soundtrack or the above the rim soundtrack
That's cool - I was just speaking on the fact that now it's the closest thing we have to the film soundtracks from back in the day.
American Gangster is maybe the only other soundtrack from the not too distant past that qualifies in the same vein, but even that is questionable.
As for forthcoming soundtracks - I'm praying Marvel does the right thing and lets Femi Kuti/ Questlove supervise the music on Black Panther. I would low key even be down with some Flying Lotus for the trippy Panther God sequences... Could set off another boom in the field if it's done right.
I wouldn't be surprised if they went back to the well and tried to do what James Gunn did although I'm sure most of their movies won't qualify. Don't forget Frozen man. the music isn't for me but that's a huge huge soundtrack
It really depends who the director is. Compiling 70's and 80's tunes to reflect the taste of an American kid is going to be easier than trying to score BP in a way that makes it stand out sonically, while still putting an African spin on it. Off the top of my head the only people who might care to put in that level of detail to get it spot on right might be Steve McQueen and Spike.
Sure - thinking about it, I guess Frozen was a big deal in that way
Yeah Black Panther with a Shaft type soundtrack would be incredible
