Everybody pretty much said all there is to say. They're obviously not "legit competition", yet the WWE let Sami mention them on a live show, HHH made a passing reference to them during DX's HOF speech, and they're trying to discourage current WWE wrestlers in various ways to not leave. They are clearly threatened by AEW. If they weren't, they wouldn't be so pressed about it.

:wow: Can't wait for the "AEW has a good product at the moment from DC Dave." during his GotG 3 Promotional Campaign.

That, or he is just waiting for his WWE HoF Jostens Ring. :troll:

Really they're going to need to be around for a few years before being considered legitimate competition by many.

This. Not just wrestling but any new business. It will take 5+ years for them even start earning a profit. It's crazy to think they are competition just yet.

It’s in AEW business plan to start turning a profit next year. If they’re really getting their tv production paid for and a decent minimum from ads, I don’t see why not.

Only problem I see with this, is that WWE has set the bar so low at the moment. Back when IMPACT came up, WWE had bankable stars despite being a monopoly.

It's also premature to say they are legitimate competition when they've only had one show and are still 2 months out from starting TV. Really they're going to need to be around for a few years before being considered legitimate competition by many. WWE's been around in one form or another for almost 70 years and has been so synomous with "wrestling" in America that "wrestling" has been called "WWF/WWE" for 30+ years now. Even in the most down times, and even when WCW was beating them, WWF was the name brand for wrestling in the United States, so it's going to take more than a few sold out shows to get people thinking it's more than an alternative.
30+ years nah breah. LOL
WCW and the southern wresslin scene never fukked with WWE like that.
There are still a lot of us, non kids, who grew up and fondly remember non WWF cartoon shyt.
You seem to be confusing a the NYC's area view of wrestling with the whole US

I'm from the Mid West so NYC's view of wrestling doesn't mean shyt to me. I'm talking about local news, national news, tabloids, TMZ, talk shows, etc...."wrestling" has been interchangeable with "WWF" and "WWE" since Hulkamania in the media. WWF has been the reference for decades. WWF/E is to wrestling what Band Aids and Q-Tips are to bandages and cotton swabs. It's going to take some time to be a legitimate competitor to that type of marketshare.

Ever since WCW folded I've watched only WWE. It's gotten so bad that I've finally started watching other promotions. There is definitely good alternatives and I should have been watching them sooner. I'm rooting for AEW to succeed strictly because competition is a good thing.
