WWE reportedly dissed Batista again
Now, I’m a pretty big Dave Bautista fan, but I don’t think that’s why this is such a puzzling story to me.
It was recently reported by Wrestling Observer that Bautista was contacted by WWE about returning to the company as Ronda Rousey’s partner for WrestleMania 34. Pro Wrestling Sheet has more to the story though, and that’s where I get confused.
Part of it is pretty exciting. Sheet’s sources tell them a match with Rousey against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon would have set the stage for Batista vs. The Game at next year’s Showcase of The Immortals - something Dave has long said is his preferred retirement program.
The rest is baffling. Apparently, WWE just dropped the whole dialogue with Bautista in January. He found out they’d decided to go with Kurt Angle for the spot instead after it was announced on the Mar. 5 Raw... when the rest of the world did.
Bautista, an established movie actor who’s set to play a role in one of the biggest movies ever when Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Infinity War comes out later this month, didn’t get a courtesy call from his friend Triple H or anyone else in the company.
Just a bizarre way to handle a guy who you have to figure they want in their Hall of Fame and as part of their promotional team in the future. Especially when his latest exit from the fold came with Hunter and Steph allegedly laughed off his chances of making it in Hollywood before Guardians of the Galaxy stormed the box office in 2014.
Guess they really didn’t like his pro-Titus O’Neil stance a couple years back, huh?
