Baseball fans of thecoli, what do you judge more harshly, Bonds alleged roids use or Ruth playing w/o Blacks cause we were banned?

Judge neither harshly. Both were all time greats. Also possibility that Babe Ruth was part black as well.

Ruth played against Black players tho...not in the MLB but he was one of if not the only white player who would play those exhibition games
exhibition games aren't real games. That's the same bullshyt the NBA does when they play Barcelona and Real Madrid in the preseason.

except those exhibition games brought exposure and money to the Negro Leagues and help them stay afloat

Ruth didn't have to do that, had very little to gain from it and still did it and got taunted for doing it at the time.

just cause the numbers from those games didn't end up on official stat sheets doesn't mean they don't matter or were "bullshyt" as you put it

weird comparison. the mlb didn't allow black players, so ruth didn't really have a choice there. whereas if bond took the roids, then that's on him. :yeshrug:

whatever the case, i'm not judging either. they're two of the goats regardless in my book. :salute:

Ruth had no control over there not being black players in MLB. Seems ridiculous to penalize him for that.

Bonds made a conscious decision to use PEDs.

I’m at a point now where it doesn’t matter all that much that Bonds juiced. He was a supreme hitter even before he started doing that. So I don’t penalize him too much for it. The way I look at it is, I don’t care about Bonds’ historical numbers the same way. So 73 and 762 don’t mean all that much to me. But in terms of his ability over the course of his career, he was spectacular.

One thing I will add is that it’s a bit silly to me how many people choose to bash mlb’s past for not allowing black players in mlb…but then those people won’t ever take any time to learn about the great black players who were around and dominated.

Many baseball historians talk a lot about Cool Papa Bell and Oscar Charleston but the average fan had never heard of them. And those guys could easily rank among the best 10-20 players ever if you chose to do it.

What do you think the global games do?

It was BULLshyt! It DOESN'T MATTER.

Most Blacks who love Baseball know of all of the negro League players and the quality of the league as Black historians. Obviously, non-Baseball fans who are Black will not have that knowledge but they don't like Baseball.

Neither

But baseball needs to get off it's PED high horse.

It benefited SO MUCH from the Bonds, Sosa, McGwire ect. era

it was the last time they had AMAZING national ratings

now they want to keep them all out of the Hall.

Neither really.

It’s not Ruth’s fault MLB had a color barrier. Ruth would barnstorm with Negro League players and support them, I like him much better than a POS like Cap Anson.

As for Bonds taking PEDs, it’s unfortunate, but I’m at a stage where I’m mostly indifferent to PEDs and think it’s just part of sports.

Bonds roid use was blown out of proportion. He’s still the GOAT. Babe played over 100 yrs ago against pale cacs…..what Ohtsni currently is doing is more impressive

I think roids/HGH use was only one part of the offensive explosion. Juiced balls and smaller strike zones may have also played a role, and I don’t think a small role. We already know from the 1963-68 period how much of an effect a larger strike zone can have on offense (people were pissed that Maris broke Ruth’s HR record in 61’ and started being more lenient to pitchers on what was a strike)

The league also likely used a juice ball in 87’. Homeruns skyrocketed that year, then went back to normal from 88-92, then rose again in 93’. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used it during the steroid era. There’s already been talk about MLB using more live balls in the past few years.
