I really enjoyed Atlanta’s third season so I can’t say anything on that, but I will say I am enjoying how this show is transforming under Hader’s direction. For how unhinged the season finale was, the shaky camera was a terrific choice. We always found ourselves laughing at the situations in past episodes, but now we got to see just how fukked it really is for these guys.Atlanta season 2 >> Barry season 2.
But this season of Barry shyts on Atlanta's third season. Might be better than any season of Atlanta too, tbh. One of the best seasons of television in the last decade.
Hader says they have 6 seasons planned.I shied away from the show for a long time because for whatever reason the "dark comedy" thing at HBO just hasn't interested me on paper. Barry, Succession...despite glowing reviews I just didn't think they'd be serious enough for my time. But boy was I wrong about Barry. Just finished and I'm blown away. Really enjoyed S1. The entire cast was great. Such a weird, interesting collection of characters - from the main characters to the minor support roles (for instance many of the characters in the acting class). I love when a show nails the atmosphere it's trying to create and sells you on the world. Watching the cast play around in that was great.
S2 was more mixed for me because it got a bit too ridiculous at times. But man...S3 hit the nail on the head. It felt surreal, a mixture of reality and dream/nightmare. At times felt like some David Lynch shyt. Just great. Character wise I thought Sally's descent in the last couple seasons, especially S3, was stellar. Great acting, great writing. And what a contrast between her career arc and Gene getting what he wanted while hiding such a dark secret until he couldn't anymore.
That ending really felt like the season finales on network tv shows where the writers don't know if it'll be renewed or not. Some resolutions but leaving the door open just enough for more I'm not sure where they go from here. Maybe there's some legal loophole or entrapment issue that gets him off. Regardless I gotta assume S4 will be the last one.
You're wrong about Succession as well, trust meI shied away from the show for a long time because for whatever reason the "dark comedy" thing at HBO just hasn't interested me on paper. I hope they keep the quality up. Amazing job so far but it could easily slip.Hader says they have 6 seasons planned.
Where'd he say that? Last I heard is that he's undecided on whether season 4 will be the last:Hader says they have 6 seasons planned.
Given the air of finality permeating recent episodes, Variety(opens in new tab) asked Hader whether it’s teed Barry season 4 up to be the show’s farewell.
"I don’t know. We’re still figuring that out," Hader said. "Every season we’ve done of the show, people have said ‘No, don’t do another one.’ We did season 1, I remember The New York Times said, like, ‘Don’t ever do another episode.’ Every season people go ‘No more!’ I don’t know. We just take it scene by scene, and if it makes sense for it to end, it’ll end."
