BREAKING: Ohio State running back facing possible dismissal

Newsletter

With Ezekiel Elliott departing early for the NFL, Ohio State was expecting to look to a group consisting of fifth-year senior Bri'onte Dunn, second-year freshman Michael Weber, junior Curtis Samuel, freshman Antonio Williams, and senior Dontre Wilson to carry the load in the backfield this coming season.

Unfortunately it looks like the unit will be down one man from that group, as multiple sources are telling Bucknuts that Dunn committed a violation of team rules that could possibly lead to dismissal from the team immediately.

Full details of the situation are still being sorted out, and an Ohio State team spokesman has yet to comment on the situation at this time, but if true as expected, it means the end of a disappointing career for Dunn.

The Canton (OH) GlenOak product came to Columbus, choosing the Buckeyes over Michigan, as a 4-star prospect, the No. 96 overall player, No. 8 running back, and No. 6 player in the state for the Class of 2012 per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Despite his lofty ranking, he never saw much playing time while suiting up for the Scarlet and Gray. His freshman year he played a limited role on an undefeated team, rushing 25 times for 133 yards. His second year he took a redshirt after not landing a spot on special teams and suffering an ankle injury. In his third year, he lost the job to Elliott, running just 9 times for 63 yards, but played a lot on special units for the champion Buckeyes. Finally, last season, in a reserve role behind Elliott again, he ran 15 times for 93 yards with 1 score, giving him 49 career carries for 291 yards (5.9 ypa) with 3 TDs.

This year, Dunn was considered one of the feel-good stories on the team going into 2016. Back in 2014, Urban Meyer was quoted as saying Dunn "nearly lost his spot on the team" after he faced charges stemming from a traffic stop in his hometown. But Dunn was able to stay in the fold and was positioned to compete with Weber in fall camp and, at worst, provide depth.

Officially dismissed. :wow:

We started at like 87-88 after the last class. Now we're at 83 after transfers and this dismissal. That's why I don't know why fans ever trip off of the numbers. Hell, this was in all likelihood known months ago.
