While the first part of the movie gave a glimpse of a gripping thriller, the film took too much of a detour in what remained, replacing what seemed promising with something that might have worked if it weren’t coupled to what we saw in the beginning. I understand the film was trying to throw viewers a curve ball, but the tonal shift was too jarring.

Justin Long’s story would have been great as a feature length film. The mystery surrounding the guy in the first act was a missed opportunity.

The lead actress was terrible.

My expectations were high for this based off the ratings; I was not disappointed.

The premise for this horror movie is perfect:

Don't go in that house.

That's what we all say when we watch horror movies. Don't go in that house! Run! What are you doing?! Only, this time, Tess is supposed to be in that house. She booked that house. She has an important interview and needs that place to stay. That house that she shouldn't go in being her Airbnb justifies her initial actions really well, for a horror movie.

I loved the tonal shift halfway through. Loved it. I knew that Justin Long was in the movie but while I was watching it, he never even crossed my mind. So when he popped up I was like :gladbron: He played his part perfectly. He was back in "Tusk" mode with this role. The nonchalant toss of Tess' laptop onto the bureau was perfect. :russ:

He was so great in his role that I was rooting for him despite his scumbaggetry. And I was disappointed when he got done like the mutant in The Descent. I really wanted him to live.

That's a testament to Justin Long's likeability.

Getting chased by Mutant Melisandre? :dead:

I really liked this and can see why it got :35stars: I have no problem with that. I've never seen anything from this Zach Cregger but I was impressed. I liked the elements he took from other horror movies like "The Hills Have Eyes," "Vacancy," and "The Descent." I look forward to more from this dude.

What a great year for horror it's been. I gotta thank the Druids and HBO Max for dropping this right before Halloween. This did a great job of washing the stench of Michael Myers and Halloween Ends' rotting corpse away.

This movie was great. fukk the haters.
Some great camera work, lighting, cinematography to make it scary.

I wish the lead was a white girl, because no woman of color would do the bullshyt ol'girl did.

My question is
who rented the house to those people? who was the person at the website who did that, Justin Long didn't know and the woman he was talking to didn't know, anyone know the significiance of the electric toothbrush on the ground getting charged?

It was intentional that Tess wasn't white.

If Tess was white the cops might believe her. With her not being white when she goes to the cops and looks dirty and is hysterical with a crazy story they don't believe her. I only realized this when I was watching a review on the movie and I picked up on the black cop was the only cop talking to her. I've ran into the police enough and if you're black they normally send the black cop and not the white one to talk to you. You talk to them and think ok hes black too and the cop ends up not helping you or at least the way you suspect.

To answer your question the management company rented out the house. The lady was just the receptionist. They kind of set it up with the they only clean the place before the next renter as them not being the most competent company.

The toothbrush on the ground charging made Keith's story more valid that he wasn't someone that broke into the home and was going to kill her.

edit: I also think she wasn't white so audiences mainly males of any race would root for her. At the beginning of the movie I know I was like damn she fine she kinda looks like Rosario Dawson myself. She was the only character where I was like oh no don't do that because I didn't want her to be killed.

Watched this for my monthly family night. My moms was hating because it wasn't her pick
:russ:

I defended it tho. It's in the same vein as X which I also watched recently.

The scary basement/hidden room horror is hot right now. They're just different enough not to be a problem for me.

You almost need characters in these type of movies to be dumbasses - Tess was raising my blood pressure

I really enjoyed the tension they built up to the reveal. This was dope and character designs like that bytch always creep me out.

I actually watched Don't Breathe because of that post. I liked the movie but I could easily, and more accurately, say that Don't Breathe is just People Under the Stairs.
