They aren't the official traditional, formal White House portraits though.
The National Portrait Gallery has all kinds of depictions. Including non-traditional artistic stuff.

All of these are better than the Michelle one imo.

Its not the composition (well it partly is), its just the average level of technical skill.

Great pictures as far as skills, but nothing about Obama's painting says power or greatness. Sitting in all of those leaves seems weird. Michelle's dress is awesome, but the face is off.

It does and doesn't at the same time. The crux of all of Wiley's work is putting people of color in lofty neo-classical and baroque contexts, uplifting their portrayal. This portrait play on that same context, but highlights his position as the everyman. It also creates the context of organic, natural leadership. He was born and grew out of the same roots that his constituents came from thus his leadership is more legitimate and doesn't require the same visual queues as other positions of power do.

You don't have to see his office to know he is powerful. Someone 500 years from now could see this and know this man was powerful.

Michelle is one basic, sorry. Looks like something a college art student did.

Don't care for Michelle's at all. Doesn't do her justice and slightly doesn't resemble her , something I would expect from a cac and not a black woman.
