I bank with MCU, and you have to be a government/city/state employee to bank with them. Or be related to someone who banks there. Or a college student. They are a great credit union though.

I had a relative who was going to check cashing spots and paying money to get her money.
I didn't know check cashing spots still cashed checks...thought they existed only for western union..

Don't know about other states, but in NJ..the LAW requires that banks offer no min. balance checking accounts.

Anyway, took her to nearest branch to her house and had her open free checking account and she's opened other accounts.
