Shawn Porter criticises Adrien Broner for refusing to discuss catch-weight
Last Updated: 16/06/15 12:40pm

Shawn Porter has slammed Adrien Broner for his refusal to discuss the catch-weight stipulation for Saturday's bout.

Broner has won super-featherweight and lightweight world titles before and having lost his WBA world welterweight crown to Marcos Maidana, has insisted on a 144lbs limit for his clash with fellow-American Porter.

Porter, naturally the bigger man having campaigned at light-middleweight in the past, usually weighs in at 147lbs before rehydrating back towards the 160s but in Las Vegas this weekend, he is not allowed to rehydrate beyond 154lbs.

WIth such stringent rules laid down, the home fighter is furious that Broner has stayed silent on the catch-weight issues.

Porter, who lost his IBF welterweight title via a tight points defeat to Kell Brook last August, said: "We’ve known for weeks now that the contracted weight is supposed to be 144.

"Here we are doing everything we need to do as professionals to be on weight, be on point, be 100% and the ‘kid’ who chose to make the contracted weight 144 wishes not to talk about the contracted weight, wishes not to talk about any rehydration clause, wants to avoid any conversation involving weight limits or anything like that.

"And the more and more we talk about it, the more and more the animosity sets in because I’m a professional doing what I do at this high level for so long and my weight class is 147 for so long.

"You want to move up into my weight, then move up. Don’t be scared. Don’t be worried.

Don’t be afraid. Put your skill on the line along with your record. Put it all on the line at 147. Don’t put it at 144, then not want to talk about it."

Agree to fight at 144, agree to the rehydration clause......then complain after the fact brehs:rudy::camby:

If you are gonna complain about it, why did you sign the contract?:comeon:

I cant stand when nikkas do this shyt:snoop:

Act like you were "forced" to fight a Junior Welterweight at a catchweight, when you were offered to fight Keith Thurman and turned it down brehs:wow:

Complain about the weight in interviews and then make twitter posts talking about how good your weight is and pictures of you eating brehs:beli:

I dont see what is even the point of him making it an issue in the media, but on twitter, he's always saying something different:snoop:

Fighters who drain themselves for a catchweight always feel great before the weigh in :francis:

But AB shoulda jus said im not a welterweight so we did a catch weight...or hell do the lame ass Swift route N be vague af N say the catch weight was the only way to make a fight :yeshrug:

Having ellerbe :cape:to answer his questions about it N acting like there is no catch weight makes it look bad like he's embarrassed he asked for it

I fully expect an AB win N struggle time blame the weight N he overtrained since he was ready for a fight since May 5th

Shawn Porter Plans to Use Several Styles Against Broner
Posted by: David P. Greisman on 6/16/2015
by David P. Greisman

Shawn Porter believes he’ll incorporate more than one approach against Adrien Broner when they fight this Saturday in the main event of “Premier Boxing Champions” on NBC.

“I think this fight’s going to go everywhere. I want to dictate everything. I want to dictate the pace. I want to be the commander in the ring,” Porter said on a June 15 media conference call. “So with that being said, we’re versatile, which is great. We can box him from the outside. There will also be points where we look to move in and get very physical. We’ll take it one round at a time, obviously. We’ll look to box and we’ll also look to punch and put it all together … the boxing, the punching, the pressure, the countering, all of it.”

He looked back at how Broner handled, or didn’t handle, the approach that Marcos Maidana used in defeating the brash Cincinnatian back in 2013. He also reviewed footage of fights Broner won when he was younger.

“We’ve taken a look at a number of his fights. I’m definitely reminding myself not to underestimate him, not to think that I’m going to come in there and do everything that Maidana did to him, and that’s it and I’ll get the win. We look to do so much more than Maidana did. But the pressure that Maidana applied the entire fight was great, was what he needed.. We’ll obviously look to do some of that,” Porter said.

“I’ve also taken a look at his earlier fights where he looked really sharp and superb, just to remind myself of what he can do. There were a lot of things he didn’t do against Maidana, but there were a lot of things he did do good against some of his other competitors earlier in his career. We look to do a lot of different things in this fight. It’s going to take a lot to win this one. We’re ready for it.”

fukk him:pacspit:

I hope the nikka gets a 12-0 boxing clinic put on him for talking shyt about AB...while AB hasnt even gone down that route with him thus far:camby:

He ducked Keith Thurman, who says last thing he heard was that he was fighting Shawn Porter and next thing he knew he was fighting Collazo because Porter signed to fight Broner, in order to fight a catchweight with someone who has only weighed more than 144lbs 1 time in his career...then complains in the media about fighting at a catchweight:camby:

Should've fought Thurman then instead of purposely trying to fight a much smaller opponent:birdman:

Start your career at Super Middleweight, then drain yourself all the way down to Welterweight in order to have size advantages brehs:rudy:

I hope he needs IVs on fight night in order to rehydrate himself or suffer the same fate Stiverne did with dehydration:demonic:

Porter on Broner: Little Kid From Cincy Scared of 147
Posted by: Jake Donovan on 6/16/2015

By Jake Donovan

It’s a win Shawn Porter wants bad enough, that he was willing to match his career-lightest weight in order to make it happen.

The former welterweight titlist insists he is on course to make weight for his upcoming showdown with fellow Ohioan, former three-division titlist Adrien Broner. The two collide at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (Saturday, NBC, 8:30 p.m. ET), with the fight to be contested at a maximum catchweight of 144 lbs.

Porter has come in that light for just one fight in his pro career, a 10-round win over Anges Adjaho way back in Feb. ’11. Before that, you’d have to go all the way back to 2003, when he competed in the 145 lb. division as a 15-year old in the amateurs.

Still, from risk comes reward. The risk, as Porter sees it, comes from facing a former three-division titlist such as Broner (30-1, 22KOs). In agreeing to the catchweight, Porter and his camp—headed by his father and trainer Kenny—have minimized any risk making such weight would cause his health, perhaps to the dismay of his opponent this weekend.

“We were asked to come in at this weight. There’s a little kid from Cincinnati that’s scared to fight at that weight, even though he’s fought there before,” commented Porter (25-1-1, 16KOs). “We’re going to get on scale and make weight, and let him know he’s not getting any advantage from that.”

The bout will mark Porter’s second ring appearance since a title-losing effort to Kell Brook last summer. He comes into Saturday’s showdown on the heels of a 5th round knockout over late replacement Erick Bone this past March.

Both fights took place at the 147 lb. welterweight limit, where the 27-year old from Akron, OH has spent the better part of the past five years of his career. It’s where he plans to return regardless of what takes place this weekend.

“I’m not looking past Adrien. That said, we made this fight at 144 lbs.,” Porter notes. “Beyond that, there’s no other reason to fight any lower than welterweight. I’m a 147 lb. fighter and want to fight the best welterweights at their strongest—not a blown up 140 lb. fighter, not a talked down 154 lb. fighter. I want to face the best at their best.”

How ironic, Shawn Porter has weighed in at 144 once in his career...AB has weighed in higher than 144 once in his career.

What's the problem? You signed the contract...why bytch now?:camby:

I swear, I cant wait to see this nikka at The Hair Chamber:demonic:

:whoa: Im gonna be respectful about it....I dont want no problems:whoa:

But I AM gonna ask him why sign the contract, effectively turning down the fight with Keith Thurman to fight Broner at a 144 catchweight, and then complain about fighting at a 144 catchweight afterwards:ufdup:

That shyt is basura brehs:camby:

And that's why you dont agree to catchweights if you dont think you can win.

You dont sign on the dotted line, talk about how you're feeling great, posting pictures of you eating...only to come back in the media talking shyt about something YOU signed up to do:snoop:

It aint like he was FORCED or a title is on the line. It's a regular ass non-title bout. He turned down a Championship fight with Keith Thurman at 147 to take this catchweight, so what is he complaining about:dead:
