Veteran trainer Robert Garcia is picking former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-1, 22KOs) to walk away with the victory when he faces ex-welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16KOs) on June 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will headline a Premier Boxing Champions main event on NBC, and takes place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds.
"It's not an easy fight, it's going to be an exciting fight - but I'm picking Broner to win. He's got tremendous skills and I've heard that he's training very, very hard. That said, I think he wins the fight. It won't be easy but I think he wins," Garcia said.
One of Garcia's main fighters, Marcos Maidana, handed Broner the first defeat of his pro career in 2013. Broner moved down to 140-pounds and now has a three fight win streak. Broner survived two knockdowns and some very tense moments to last twelve rounds in defeat.
"[Broner] has a lot of heart and he deserves to get respect. Just the fact that he was able to hang in there with Maidana after two knockdowns and everything that happened in the fight...he was there, he hung in there. He took Maidana's best punches and still went the distance and the fight was still close. He's a very tough guy, he's a very dangerous guy that a lot of people don't think so, but he could be one of the best fighters in the world. With a few good wins, he could be in the top five or four pound-for-pound," Garcia said.
