Baltimore folks, what does this mean for the local street culture? Will it go back to business as usual for the criminal element that exploits the community's inhabitants? Those so called gang members that got interviewed, they looked like they meant what they said. What do ya'll think?

Then how come she was the only one who vetoed it in the city council?! Surely shes not the only one who recognize the fiscal problems of Baltimore.
I don't even see the point in body cameras tbh. We seen nikkas get bodied on camera phones and those dash cams in the cop cars and cops still got off. Even the fools that beat Rodney King got off. Are we really ready to see nikkas getting offed by cops in first person like Call Of Duty?

I don't fukk with Rawlings Blake at all but for the people saying "she didn't want the body cams" , have you ever once stopped to think that maybe just maybe they couldn't afford that shyt? Baltimore is a small broke ass city with big city problems, where do you suggest she gets this money from? Can't take it from schools because they're already fukked up. Can't raise taxes because people in the city are fukking poor. Half the people who work in the city don't even live in the city, shyt a quarter of them don't even live in Baltimore or Maryland for that case they live in DC and commute. There is a bigger picture here.

This.. They covered this problem in what season 4 of The Wire.. Lol

We have to wait and see. Id like to think all this is bringing us together and forcing us to look within as a community but at the end of this the majority of the city is still gonna be living in the same situation as before

Then how come she was the only one who vetoed it in the city council?! Surely shes not the only one who recognize the fiscal problems of Baltimore.

Much of the discussion focused on whether the proposed bill, which requires all Baltimore City police officers to wear body cameras, is legal. Elena DiPietro, the chief solicitor for the Baltimore City Law Department, said it's not.

"We have on numerous occasions, when legislation of this type that attempts to direct the police commissioner or the Police Department to do a specific thing -- we've always said that's outside the scope of the City Council's authority," DiPietro said.

A representative from the city's Finance Department said the estimated cost of the proposed legislation would be $5 million in startup costs and as much as $2.7 million annually after that.

Police Commissioner Anthony Batts shared his previous experience with body cameras in California, as well as his hope that they will eventually be part of Baltimore's Police Department.

"I came in the door saying that I wanted to go to body cameras, so that's not something that's new for me," Batts said.

When asked if he supports the bill as it currently stands, Batts replied, "Oh, that's way out of my pay league. That's not in my position as commissioner. I just take the direction and make it happen."

Batts did say that he thinks the cost for the cameras is probably closer to $10 million.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake explained that the task force she announced earlier this month will address her biggest criticisms of the bill.

"I have a lot of concerns about the bill, not just the fact that it might not be legal, but there's not much there. I have concerns about privacy -- that's not addressed in the bill. I have concerns about cost -- that's not addressed in the bill. They're still talking about 2,000 cameras. That means that every staff person at the Police Department gets a camera. It just doesn't make a lot of sense," the mayor said.

Most likely go back, still no jobs here. Still nothing for kids to do here. I do believe some people will want to do better because of it. And hopefully some people here will look up to the DA and try to follow her path.

Riots have been a staple of the means to get justice not only for black people but for people of many other races too. Riots happened in the sixties, 70s, etc and while peace protest have brought about change so have riots but at a lesser rate, that doesn't mean it hasn't worked though. But to say that the riots have been embarrassing is embarrassing in itself. If you are really a prideful blackman than you shouldn't be embarrassed and worried about what other people think, that makes me think that you are not so prideful but just concerned with appearances.

You're missing the point then. The advances we've gained in this country, in this society, were not solely the results of our own efforts. Admittedly I fall into the mentality from time to time that violence or money can be the only exclusive game changers when it comes to affecting positive change for us in society. However, that's short sighted when you take into account any positive change for Blacks or any group in this country for that matter in a historical sense. We both needed and benefited from the sympathies and actions of non-Blacks (yep, that means cacs) to make significant gains. That said, by default, there is going to be some concern with how we represent ourselves. Matter fact, to put it into perspective, plenty of people both on here and otherwise were upset with how the media represented the past week's actions. How so? Folks took exception to use of the words, "riot", and, "thugs." In other words, people were concerned about being misrepresented in a negative manner for a couple of reasons. One, it invalidates the legitimate range of emotions young Blacks are reeling from. Two, it invalidates their actions as not being civil, so why even bother understanding their grievances. Three, it's hypocritical to label them thugs and call it a riot when we see young whites get involved with similar to the same behavior and they're never labeled with negative terms.

That said, like it or not, our appearances as in both how the media represents us and how we represent ourselves will be a component that will shape to some degree the public discourse on subjects like police brutality and the Black community. In a perfect world, right is right, and wrong is wrong, but life is far more complex than that.

Honestly we need to do the same shyt everyone else is doing. Get our money up and buy a polotiican and get them to pass a national police brutality act that says there needs to be cameras, if they turn it off there's a mandatory felony, and there has to be a community based group who's responsible for over site and is able to determine if charges need to be filed. They gays raised money and got don't ask don't tell repealed and Hispanics raised money and got the dream act to DC, so there's nothing stopping us from doing the same.

Transparency breh.

Its more way more important than recording the rare police shooting.
