Peter Popoff
AKA Petty Pimpiń..🤑
I only remember seeing this match when it originally aired, but it was really good. Hennig & Valentine kept it simple, they were just two guys trying to physically dominate their opponent and win the IC title. Neither man was just doing moves for crowd approval; both guys were actively trying to win, and the match was a lot more believable because of that.
Even though there was a little bit of Jimmy Hart silliness, this was a prize fight and both men sold it like they had been in a scrap. Good stuff from 4 legends!
Wrestlers lost the art of being technical. Focusing on breaking an opponent down, talking shıt, taunting.
Back in 98', I would skim over the flippy shıt and luchador trash in the cruiserweight division of WCW to watch more technical opponents like Dean Malenko, Raven, Beno..., Regal, etc... Even the GOAT Eddie Guerrero would incorporate technical with some flippy shıt without overdoing it.
There's guys like Gunther and Reigns that figured it out. I'm also starting to like Bronn more.
