KALB - Alexandria, Louisiana - Stormy Cofer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Monday for the 2013 shooting death of 18-year-old Kieunna Collins in Alexandria.
Cofer was found guilty of second degree murder on September 18 by a jury.
Cofer's attorney, David Williams, submitted a post verdict judgement for a new trial at the start of the sentencing. But, that was denied by Judge Mary Doggett who said "evidence is sufficient to support the verdict."
Rosie Bridges, the aunt of Kieunna Collins, gave a victim impact statement. She said, "Kieunna was a beautiful girl with a warm and caring heart. [...] To be gunned down at 18-years-old ruined her dreams. There is no future."
Collins' father also gave an impact statement. He said, "The trial was probably worse than the funeral." He also referenced a video played in court of his daughter: "I apologize for the way my daughter acted that day. That's not how I raised her."
A tearful and visibly pregnant Cofer then addressed Kieunna Collins' family.
"I have nothing to gain. I'm sorry. It was never intentional. If I could take it back, I would. I hope you can forgive me."
Collins' father replied, "I already forgave you, Stormy."
Cofer's attorney objected to the sentence.
