The detective partner is all over the place. Is she Chinese or Vietnamese? If she's 40 then she was born aprox 1945/46ish. She says her family escaped Vietnam in 75 except her brother. So when was she riding her bike around Detroit as a kid? This story takes place in what 88/89 or so? Timelines ain't adding up.

I understand Lamar's motives, but what's his end game? Also, if everyone assumes you are dead, you use that to your advantage and come up with a long-term strategy. Don't be leaving candy at the door and popping up/disappearing from schools like the ghost whisperer. But that's asking too much.

The writing in this show is pissing me off, this episode was all over the damn place. 
That entire church scene was so predictable.
Pops singing and lusting after his bandmate, the moms peeps game and gets upset. Confides in the crooked pastor, who gets distracted once the young phat ass passes his peripheral. Then confronts the pops and gets threatened for the disrespect. 
The whole survivors remorse with the Asian cop and now she burning herself, like what? where??? why?
Lamar playing the boogeyman is hilarious but I don't even mind that shyt
And I understand Kash Doll ain't trying to bust down on camera no more but that don't mean we need to see Mechy's ass
All that being said I'll be tuned in next week

I think you're right. I cant see Pops Flenory working @ GM and struggling like that. Motown left Detroit in 1972, but there were still remnants of the Motown era in Detroit in the 1980's, garage bands, 5 man Temptations, New Edition type of groups and rappers.
