Like I said in the season 1 thread. I was maybe 12-13 when crack started really taking off and despite some of the cartoonish aspects of the show. It does a really good job of portraying the fall of the traditional Black family.

In the mid-80s the unions were being ousted from the factories so the security blanket of good wages and health coverage was going away.

Its tough on the dad. Its one thing to be broke but its another to have children who make more in a day selling drugs then he probably makes in a month and a wife who has to take a minimum wage job just to keep the lights on.

Shortly after its Season 2 premiere on Jan. 6, Starz has ordered a third installment for “BMF.” The premium cabler made the announcement on Tuesday, sharing that the drama series ranked as the most socially engaged drama across all networks over premiere weekend with 4.1 million multiplatform viewers.

“’BMF’ captures the essence of Detroit through elevated, gritty storytelling and our fans have passionately responded to this show more than ever before,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz. “Following such a strong debut with season two, we’re thrilled to continue to expand on the incredible story of the Flenory brothers as they change the game by writing their own rules. We can’t wait to see what our extraordinary producers and cast deliver next.”

This kid gives me the ickies.
His acting is decent, I'll give him that.
But he's in the same position as Ice Cube's son where I need to see him play other types of characters to take him seriously as an actor.
The vibe I'm getting is that this kid really thinks he's some kind of gangster or boss on the street and that playing his father is more of a Freudian ego stroke than anything else.
Like he really believes that he is his dad and has the same pedigree.
Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Watched the first two eps of the season
The writing on the first ep was horrid. The second episode script was slightly better.
I understand why they shoehorned Kelly Hu's character in there, which is some bullshyt.
It wouldn't be so bad if she could act.
The background music doesn't fit the era. Everyone involved should know better.
Since when do two grown nikkas get in a room to laugh and dance together?
The shyt that cracked me up is when they mama told Grandma that Meech was a drug dealer and she smooth shrugged it off.
Not even a "Oh my God!"
The chick that plays T's girl is fine as hell.
I see from the thread I wasn't the only one peepin how the mama's body was sittin in them dresses
I just hope this doesn't devolve to the Tyler Perry-esque levels of Power.

Money from auto plant jobs is what built the Black middle class in Detroit.
That's a giant plot hole unless there's somn Meech and T not telling us.
Thats exactly what I said in the BMF season 1 thread. If Pops Flenory was working at GM in the 70's and 80's he was making $$$, the profit sharing checks alone would've got them caught up on the mortgage and they would've had some $$$ left for a trip to disneyworld or to visit family in the south. My pops worked at the Ford Rouge plant for 30 years and he never had a problem making ends meet, we went down south (Arkansas,Alabama) every summer or to disneyworld. Someone in the Flenory household either had a habit or they didnt know how to budget their money. GM employees got $10,000.00 profit sharing checks earlier this year.
