Damn, what is NYC "Soul food"? All my nikkas from up top talk about is Bodega sandwiches, chop cheese, slice of cheese pizza or 4 Chinese wings with ketchup and fries.
How do these down south nikkas not know this? Where they think we came from?
Never had this but at 2am it looks god damn amazing! 
So the story I’ve always heard about fry bread (a Native American food) is that when our people were in prison camps they were given rations. Flour, oil, and some other random things that were mostly spoiled were dispersed throughout the camp. The natives did not know what to do with the flour. They started eating it raw. A Mexican guard then showed them how to make sopapillas (fried dough). Natives have been making fry bread ever since. That shyt will kill you but it’s delicious. It’s our neck bones lol.
