imo, it was going to be to quirky, from what I read about it.

He would have had to have been around and entrenched in previous movies. This angle was basically set up after iron man 3. Saw this coming as soon as the named avengers 2 age of ultron.

At the end of the day marvel doesn't control all of its characters so they're probably like what's the point of sticking to the comics. As long as they keep everything consistent like they've been doing that's all that matters. Most people don't know who these characters are anyway.
