Spider-Man 3 is universally considered the worst of that series but made the most money.

Before Avengers passed it up Alice in Wonderland was the 10th highest grossing film of all time.

The most recent (and worst) Pirates of the Caribbean film is 9th all time.

Just because a movie is financially successful doesn't mean it's good.

That doesn't make sense. What does how much a movie makes have to do with the quality? In fact the more a movie makes the more chance it has to fit the label of being overrated.

When the movie breaks all time records and is the first movie to gross 2 billion world wide it says two things..

1. It had to have stayed in a lot of theatres over a long period of time which means people were still getting out to see it

2. a lot of people saw it multiple times. I know people that saw it in theatres 3 and 4 times so it does speak to the quality.


As far as the story it self being unoriginal, 90 percent of movies that come out are remakes, reboots or adaptations from books. What's original about The Dark Kight? Batman movies have been done already. Nothing original about comic book movies.

Yeah, Avatar has a Pochohanis type vibe but the characters, technology etc. was original. Avatar also set trends as hundreds of movies that came out after it started using 3D.

You're mistaking "enjoyment" for "Quality". A person can enjoy a film but still understand it's a bad movie. The Phantom Menace is one of the top grossing films of all time but people have been shytting on that movie for over a decade.

At the end of the day nobody pays to see a bad movie 3 and 4 times. it got overall great reviews from critics and and made more money than any movie. it may not be some peoples tastes and you can't please everyone but to say its a bad movie is insane. You have yet to back it up with relavant evidence that it was a bad movie.

Avatar wasn't overrated. The main thing that hyped this movie up was the advanced/new CGI/3D Camera technology. Visually it delivered. The story itself was cliche but it wasn't horrible. Again, its not like it got a bunch of bad ratings. It didn't break opening week box office records and it wasn't a summer blockbuster. So I still don't see how it's overrated when most of the expectations was in the visuals. The LAST movie Cameron made was Titanic as well which broke records, so for him to top that movie, is another feat. But all financials a side...
