'Avengers: Infinity War' Won't Be Split Into Two Movies

Disney release schedule update suggests two-part sequel now standalone film

Marvel’s next “Avengers” adventure — titled “Infinity War” — might no longer be told two in two parts, as it was previously announced to be.

A schedule change from Disney late Friday said that the second film in the planned two-parter would no longer be called “Avengers: Infinity War Part II.” Instead, that project has been renamed as an “Untitled Avengers” film.

The studio will release the first part “Avengers: Infinity War” — no longer with “Part 1” in its title — as planned on May 4, 2018. The second film, now called “Avengers Untitled,” will hit as planned on May 3, 2019.

In an interview on Uproxx in May, the brothers signaled their intention to change the titles. “The movies are two very different movies,” Joe Russo said, with Anthony adding, “it is misleading.”

“The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it,” Joe concluded.

This retitling (or un-titling, as it were) raises questions about the 2019 film involving the heroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). That film is still scheduled to hit on May 3, 2019.

The Russos were expected to begin shooting the project this November, and were thought to be filming both films back-to-back with a year in between for edits and release.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeel (“Captain America: Civil War”) are writing the script with input from the Russos.

I figure he means that they might drag the story out unnecessarily just to make the event appear "big".

It's interesting they're changing the sequel's title though, I figured they would've called the second one Infinity War with the first movie being a setup/lead-in to the war.

It's one thing to keep making good sequels but it's another to split a movie in 2 just to pad that ish with filler to get azzes in the seat twice.

Hell yeah I'm comparing those movies. Not from a quality standpoint because I've never seen a Divergent movie but you better believe that they saw what happened to the Divergent movie and decided to not even set themselves to be looked at in that light. This whole 3rd movie split into two different movies stuff is dead now. They just decided to re-brand the 2nd movie into its own thing.
