Similarly to the first entry, I expected better on the story front. Didn’t think it was outright bad though. I was way more invested this go-round due to the family aspect, the world-building, but the film for the most part felt like a set-up for the franchise and I’m mostly curious of where they’re going to go with Lo'ak. Hoping the dynamic between Spider and Neytiri is touched upon in the next one because I don’t know about y’all, but I’m throwing hands with anyone who has a knife to my throat.
One of the main complaints I’m seeing elsewhere were the Sea Na’vi completely disappearing in the last act and I’m actually over here applauding them for not partaking in Jake’s mess there.
This was worth the long drive and price of admission off the visuals alone. The night scenes were absolutely breathtaking, and the last act in particular had shades of each of Cameron’s classics. You knew shyt was about to get real as soon as the sun reached its eclipse.
