The visuals are good, effects are good, all of the current Fire Nation actors, Jet, & Suki Are all good.

My issues are with the dialogue/writing, The GAang’s characterizations (mainly Aangs), and the writers stuffing a LOT of late S1/Early S2 shyt within the first 5 episodes.

It's the writing that's getting shat on the most.

Much like with Cowbowy Bebop it sounds like for the writing team they got some doofuses who don't actually have any respect for the original and want to change entire personalities and shyt for no reason

ive barely noticed bad writing in this show tbh and its a PG show so im not sure what kinda dialogue folks are looking for?

it actually had a couple of good quotables, kinda like when Sei was telling Sokka about his true calling is engineering but he ignores it to do what his dad wants.

Some of the events in the cartoon are even recreated with an even more emotional tone (Zuko vs. Ozai, Bumi vs Aang)

i think the bad reviews might also to do with creators not being involved in this show

I liked One Piece live action but i’d never followed the anime. I love anime but I don’t fukk with 10,000 episode joints. When it comes to anime I like mine either in 13, 26, or 52 episode chunks. The longest anime I ever watched besides Dragonball was Naruto, and I waited until it was concluded so I could skip all the filler

Avatar on the other hand, is one of my favorite series of all time. Me and my daughter have watched that series multiple times since she was like. This is a big deal for us and I don’t want them to fukk the love action adaptation like they did with the M.Night bullshyt a decade ago.

See thats what i’m weary about. They absolutely took a big steaming DUMP on one of the greatest anime of all time with that abortion of a live action version. The writing was AWFUL even if the casting was great and the visuals were fire.

It all comes down to the writing. You can’t redeem any series/movie if the writing is trash. The showrunners already had me side eying them when they talked about switching up Sokka’s character and taking away his comedic timing and his evolution from being a well meaning but ignorant sexist. Besides Aang and Zuko, Sokka had the best character development in the entire series and if you take away his early sexist beliefs and don’t allow him to LEARN AND GROW then your taking away from the heart of the character.

this aint really a spoiler but..

Sokka's character is fairly close to the animated lol. However; he's more rom-com awkward funny in this show as opposed to being like Johnny Bravo lol

Plus, the characters in the cartoon were early teenagers and they kinda followed through with that in live-action so i get the reserve to making him more assertive and sexist with girls.

And they flattened Aang into being serious and focused when his whole thing was the fact that he had to learn to not be immature and was goofing around to get over the trauma of his whole people getting murked

This was really good. My only complaint like others have mentioned is Aang and Katara. Most of Aang’s dialogue is him feeling guilty for not being around for the past 100 years. His character should’ve been more goofy and immature. They got the motherly aspect of Katara down but she just came across as a flat character to me. Hope they get another season to fix those areas. I thought everything else was great especially the creatures.

The show is a 7/10 for me

Some changes worked, and some left me scratching my head. Some characters introduced were pointless and clearly fan service.

What I dont like the most is how they isolated alot of their adventures from the trio. Like alot of their adventures together are separate so we don't get to see how their bond unfolds. Team Avatar doesn't feel believable because of this

I don't like the portrayals of the past Avatars. Outside of Iroh and Gyatso, I hate the passive aggressiveness and mean demeanor the adults had with Aang

"YOU THINK LIKE A CHILD!!!!"

Umm because he is a fukking child. Like wtf, the whole unrealistic expectations these people force on this 12 year old boy makes them unlikable. In the original he had way more support. What I think they were trying to convey was Friendship trumps doing it all by yourself but it falls flat because Aang's friendship with the Sokka and Katara aren't fleshed out because of the way they wrote their adventures

Changes that I did like:

Expansion on Iroh and Zuko's relationship

Commander Zhao being more of a slime, yet smart and sneaky coward rather than a typical brute idiot from the show

They way they handled Zuko's banishment, making the crew of his ship the ones that were supposed to die when Zuko spoke out at the war meeting

I kinda liked they whole dynamic of Ozai manipulating Azula by using Zuko to make her into the monster we are gonna see

Showing the Air Nomad genocide was done well

I loved the change to Hahn's character rather than some dumb kid who was supposed to marry Yue, they actually gave him a purpose

Showing the aftermath of the Siege of the North worked and really hit on the emotional beats

I liked how they changed the consequences of Aang merging with the ocean spirit and how if it wasn't for Yue's sacrifice, Aang would have been lost forever, trapped with a vengeful spirit wrecking havoc on the world.

And I liked the last change of Azula being the one that conquers Omashu

Changed I didn't like:

Making Avatar Kyoshi the first Avatar he gets into contact with. They completely missed the point and ruined the entire Roku and Aang dynamic. Because they turned Roku into a caricature rather than the wise caring guide he was from the show. I absolutely hated how they portrayed Roku.

Combining the stories of the Nothern Air Temple, Jet, and Omashu into one episode was just a cluster fukk.

Changing the couple from the Tales of Two Lovers to a gay couple... like why?

Using the Secret Tunnel bits from Book 2 but leaving Aang out of it.... why?

The characterization of Bumi, making Bumi be angry with Aang because he disappeared for 100 years. When in the show, Bumi showed more compassion and understanding. Bumi doesn't think like a mad genius in this...

The Spirit World episode made no sense, Hei Bai was pointless, there's no resolve. They changed Koh the Face Stealer's purpose, why are we seeing Wan Shi Tong in the spirit world? They written out the library completely...

Mai and Ty Lee were nothing but NPCs standing in the background while Azula trains. They could have showed them training as well

Katara doesn't train with Pakku at all, even tho she challenged him and gave him a good fight he still didn't train her. It was pointless.

Also Aang doesn't water bend at all in this. Weird change

Zuko and Iroh are my favorite characters. I really love complex characters that grow into good guys. Like Piccolo, or Darth Vader. I'm a sucker for redemption arcs

And they nailed Zuko and Iroh, I don't care what anyone says. Dallas and Paul did those characters justice and to me without them, the show is 5/10 for me

If they do another season, I hope they learn from this and not try to outsmart the original and just trust the story. Because if they ruin Toph :snoop:

But then again, maybe people are right. Avatar is just not something you can adapt into live action
