8 episodes seems too low a count but seeing how they did with the One Piece adaptation and at an hour each it should work.

To "make sense" Netflix taking liberties again
No cause for alarm unless the writers are imbeciles. OP:LA had to condense and make sense of the anime's 50+ episode saga.
ATLA Book One's runtime is about 8 hours and If I really wanted to cut fat, about 2 hours of it were filler.
The total runtime is the same runtime as Book 1 from the show
