They got cold feet on Ava and knew she was in over her head...

Obviously it's impossible for me to know, but I'd say that it was less getting cold feet, and more them not wanting to set her up for failure, or have her try to keep her schedule open for them.

Because if we're being honest, them deciding to give in on the Snyder Cut has put blood in the water on them being willing to give in to fan reactions and input, even though I think it was more a product of right place right time with WB being willing to pump money into content for HBO Max and the pandemic making it a relatively low risk investment. There's a pretty decent chance that if they rolled this out in the next year or two, it would've gotten eaten up by those fans. So, instead of pushing it back long enough to separate it from the last Darkseid appearance, maybe it made more sense for them to bush it for now.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
That's false. Jim Starlin created Thanos, who was partly based on Metron before then Marvel editor Roy Thomas suggested he make him look like Darkseid.

 They stole it from Kirby. And that's what i'm sticking to.

And since Kirby is #marvelset, Thanos and Darkseid is #marvelset.

i dont understand DC. they could just make both of these series! they essentially ahve their own streaming service and the people want to see it. it clearly would do numbers there as long as the quality was there.

they should make some of these other announced movies down the road possible series' to a bigger movie release trajectory. i was looking forward to new gods :mjcry:

This was being headed by two people(King and Ava) with no success in blockbuster filmmaking.

Snyder had like 5 flops/hiccups before they pulled the plug. Abrams oversaw messing up one of the easiest layups in movies with Star Wars and Trek faltered under his watch. But he has proven success they are still handing him DC properties.

Wan... I still don’t think they have faith in non-Batman/Superman properties to flourish, especially after WW84 got panned( they cancelled that Wonder Girl project)

WB has made many (man!) missteps with the DCEU but I really do think this might be their biggest unforced error.
There is so much potential with The New Gods and Darkseid is such a pivotal character in DC lore. And to have a respected director like Duvernay teamed with a guy who knows the comics like Tom King already on board seems like this should be a no-brainer property to put energy behind.
Like if it wasn't going to be a feature film then do a series out of it...a deep dive into The 4th World stuff lends itself more to being a TV show anyway.
Just seems like a goofy decision by a guy (Walter Hamada) who really has no cogent plan in place for these properties.

:jbhmm:That's not entirely accurate.

Jack Kirby birth the idea of Darkseid and the New God's when he was still with Marvel. They were supposed to replace the Asgardians after Ragnarok.

But Marvel tried to jerk him (pause) on his money so he left and went to DC. That's when he created those characters.

But he realized DC was trash so he went back to Marvel and created Thanos/Eternals.
Thanos was created by Jim Starlin in 1973 (and admits that he was totally influenced by Darkseid in Thanos' creation) and Kirby came back to Marvel to create The Eternals 3 years after Thanos' creation.
The Eternals were created from stories Kirby wanted to do with the New Gods but DC had canceled those books before he could get to do them.
Thanos was retconned to be an Eternal years later.

I know the official story.

but it was kirby’s idea, he just never got credit for it.

And if we gonna keep it 100 Stan Lee got credit for some of Kirbys ideas as well but people will never admit it.

I believe the reason is the Snydercut. They don't want a different version of Darkseid out there so soon after his appearance in JL. So while there is no timetable to get it back on track it's possible they revisit once they think the timing is right for the character.

What was Kirby's idea? Thanos?
Because Starlin started working on the basic idea of Thanos when he was in college and like was mentioned earlier it was Roy Thomas who suggested he make the character more Darkseid like when he was creating him officially for Marvel.
So aside from inspiration, Kirby had jack shyt to do with Thanos.
It wasn't even Kirby's idea to retcon the character into being an Eternal.

That would only make sense if they were going to greenlight more of Snyderverse stuff using the character and fast track it so that it would be too close to the time New Gods was coming out.
Because if confusion was an issue then they'd have to take the same stand with Batman, Flash, Joker, Superman etc where there are multiple versions of those characters in live action media.
And New Gods didn't look like it would be anywhere close to being released for at least 3-4 more years.
