I went to Austin a few weeks ago, only for 3 nights though.
6th street was dead (it was a weeknight) but I went to East Austin and the bars were nice over there. Diverse, good looking women and people were friendly.
I was surprised by how walkable Austin is. I was expecting endless sunbelt sprawl (though, I assume the outskirts are like that). Though, the I-35 is unpleasant to walk around.
I even went to the suburbs for the fukk of it, and it was actually pretty cool. Not filled with tourists and transplants, and people were nice.
One thing I was surprised by in general, is thar the natives actually had Southern sounding accents (considering it's the edge of the South and has tons of transplants/immigrants).
