NBA Exec VP/Communications Mike Bass responded to Rochelle Sterling's interview in a statement, saying that what happens if the owners "vote for a forced sale is already spelled out in the NBA Constitution." Bass: "Under the NBA Constitution, if a controlling owner's interest is terminated by a 3/4 vote, all other team owners' interests are automatically terminated as well. It doesn't matter whether the owners are related as is the case here. These are the rules to which all NBA owners agreed to as a condition of owning their team" (THE DAILY). Rochelle Sterling's attorney Pierce O'Donnell countered with a statement of his own, saying, "We do not agree with the league’s self-serving interpretation of its constitution, its application to Shelly Sterling or its validity under these unique circumstances. We live in a nation of laws. California law and the United States Constitution trump any such interpretation" (THE DAILY).

The league's contention will be that Rochelle Sterling -- while entitled to a 50% interest in the franchise -- has "never been approved by the board of governors as the controlling owner." She and Clippers President Andy Roeser, who "went on an indefinite leave of absence this week, were only alternate governors." Rochelle Sterling would "have to be approved" by the BOG "in order to become the team's new controlling owner" (ESPN.com, 5/9). SI.com's Michael McCann cites sources as saying that the NBA is "not worried" about Rochelle Sterling's "long-term involvement with the team." Sources said that the league would "not approve" Rochelle Sterling as a controlling owner. McCann noted the league would have "compelling grounds to deny her attempt" to maintain ownership. Sources said that the league is "'gearing up' for Donald Sterling to file a lawsuit against the league and other owners." Sources added that the NBA "believes it is on strong legal grounds," as Sterling's own signature will "ultimately come back to haunt him" (SI.com, 5/9).
Donald Sterling is an a$$hole, but Rochelle Stein-Sterling is Ole Mistress who actually wields the whip. That doesn't matter if she's not actually named in documents as an owner. And even if she were, that gets terminated when Donald the controlling owner is removed. If she wants the team, she has to be voted in by the other owners. The Sterlings don't get to play the 'take back' games they played with Ms. Castro and are currently playing with V.Stiviano.
If she 'didn't want to be punished' for being married to Donald, she should have divorced him, or had paperwork drawn up to be approved to make her an owner separately from Donald. That 'separation' shyt is garbage, and should be treated as such.
She doesn't get to have the team. She doesn't get to play the sexism card. She's worse than Donald.
