What blows my mind in all of this is that Sterling never said he didn't say it...

So why is the NBA "having to verify that the tape is authentic"

Sterling and his camp have said from the beginning that "the words on those tapes do not reflect my views and beliefs"

That is totally different from "I didn't say that"

Breh this is a situation where lawsuits, litigation & millions of dollars are at stake. It's in everyone's best interest to do their due diligence on Sterling and verify that the recordings are accurate & weren't tampered/altered

Several league officials – including owners and Board of Governors members – told Yahoo Sports they believe Silver has been studying the nuclear option on Sterling: a provision in the NBA's bylaws that would allow Silver to summon a vote of league owners to strip Sterling of his ownership. The NBA would run the Clippers until the team could be sold.

Minimally, Silver could implement these penalties on Sterling: a one-year suspension, a $1 million fine and an assignment to counseling. For all the years former commissioner David Stern let Sterling slide, there's a strong belief Stern simply feared Sterling in the courts. Sterling is an attorney – he loves litigation – and Stern feared Sterling would become Al Davis to his Pete Rozelle.

I'm sure Sterling is going to counter-sue if they try any of this shyt. Are the owners going to strip him of his ownership based on the recordings? Those recordings were acquired illegally based on California laws. Keep in mind Sterling is a former lawyer who has a history of litigation.
