Randy at least played a sport breh. He is somewhat of a safe negro but there is nothing like getting insight and stories about sports from someone who actually laced em up at the highest level. And no disrespect to John, i worked many years in ATL radio and we have crossed paths, he is a cool guy. But he has been a fill in guy for a decade for a reason.
Listen I respect Randy for playing and competing at a high level professionally (he's a UGA breh so I REALLY want him to succeed). But there's a difference between playing at a high level and then being able to analyze and talk about the game in a way that's both entertaining and informative to a wide audience. Take Hugh Douglas for instance, there were many times during the season where after a Falcons game he would attempt to describe the play of the Falcons D-Lineman and their inability to rush the passer and as he was trying to articulate how a good pass rush is executed he would stop halfway through his explanation and just say "y'all not gonna understand what I'm tryna tell you" and I'm like
breh your job is to make us understand, who the fukk comes on live radio and says y'all not gonna understand anyway? Or even the other day when talking about Fredi being fired and he's asking a major MLB network analyst about how the Braves will perform under an "interim head coach", when coaches in baseball are called "managers". It's little things like that that really threaten the integrity of the broadcast b/c he sounds unprepared, ignorant or a combo of both.
Randy probably needs more time on the evening and weekend shifts to get his skills up (better analysis & stronger opinions) so he's a work in progress, but I thought John Michaels definitely deserved the opportunity even tho I wanted Ryan Stewart to get it
