Aaron West went down to Atlanta to explore the bubbling Black soccer culture on Atlanta United's opening weekend. We caught up with Black Arrow, DÈŊ & Footie Mob to discuss the soccer scene taking for ATL. COPA90 US is North America’s voice in the global soccer conversation. From weekly shows like Walk Talk Football to documentaries that take us all over the world, we're here to share how football feels and passionately tell the stories no one else does, in our region and beyond. This is the soccer generation that we're building together.

if black people flip soccer, its a wrap

only problem is the sport is expensive as fukk at the club level...needs that economy of scale that Football and Basketball have

and its more exciting than baseball

There is nothing wrong with calling it soccer.

As someone who was born in Nigeria and lived in England, i personally get annoyed when Americans in America call it football. There is already a bigger sport called football here, no need to be confusing while "trying" to be cultural.

It just comes off as doing too much to me.

I was reading an article about the decline of Brazilian football last week and the author concluded that the main problem was that the whole set-up in Brazil has shifted from emphasizing technical skill and instead focusing on athleticism. Which is why they're not the world dominant force like they were from the 50s to the 00s.

The article didn't mention US football but that strikes me as the American approach as well, because US sports value athleticism so much the football culture is also run the same way.

It's a cultural thing. Black Americans think the sport is nothing but running. It's kinda hard for soccer too break through with black folks in Chicago cuz we have every major American sport, so there's a lot is Latin and white supporters. We had a Ghanaian winger and black goalkeeper that the team got rid of which practically killed any chance of the team trying to gain interest.

I remember the Brazilian fans and football association were saying thet Brazilian players were leaving too early to play in Europe before they had developed enough technically

technical teams will always beat teams that relay on athleticism ..... which is why England never win any tournaments
