With Pete Rose it wasn't that cut and dry. They told him if he came clean it would help him and he still denied it only so he could put out a book and admit to it. Don't blame him, you want to try and increase the size of the bag. But he had a chance to come clean on MLB's terms.

I heard a similar story about Tom Seaver and the HOF dinner. Seaver was holding court with a few other HOF'ers and I want to say it was Dave Winfield could be wrong. But he went to sit down at the table and immediately got quiet and Seaver ask what are you doing, this table is only for guys that have achieved this and that and everyone goes on about their accolades. And whoever it was that tried to sit down didn't know what to do. And then Seaver tells him we're just fukking with you, grab a seat
