HOMO SAPIENS IS ABOUT 175,000 YEARS OLD BROTHER! HOW OLD DO YOU SUPPOSE RELIGION IS?

I couldn't tell you. The earliest evidence is about 8,000 BC during the Neolithic Period, but there is evidence that Neanderthals performed burial rites even earlier. Then, of course, you have the oldest mummies in the world dated to 7,000 BC. I'm wondering what caused all this to occur.

Morals and standards of behavior came about BECAUSE of religion, not before.
morality is highly resistant to religious influence, most people easily reject religious rules that violate their basic moral intuitions. The bible says you're supposed to stone your wife to death if she wasn't a virgin when you marry her.

the bible, so moral.

"But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21 then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel, by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you"

I don't know why you think you need religion to have morality.

I don't know where the "golden rule" came from, but thats all the moral guide you need. treat others how you would want to be treated.

The religion of the Mayans required them to have massive human sacrifices. Is that moral?

the point is that they can do it but they dont regardless if they stay there forever or not is not relevant

why would they do it if it's ineffective?

I agree it's a silly conversation because I don't think human burial has much to do with "morals". are Tibetans immoral for practicing "sky burial"?

didnt i just tell you this isnt a thread about delving into the depths of religion as well  stop it friend your just being naggy now not to mention your obviously not using your common sense on that one

monogamy was your example. I don't think there's much historical consensus on it's "morality"

Exactly, Mormons were polygamists. Every religion contradicts another because they're different. Ultimately morals come from our own human mind, not a fukking religion. Remember, a man THOUGHT up religion. Being good towards others is advantageous for survival. We need each other to survive. That makes a fukk-ton more sense than morals coming from religion. Religion was made by man. It's "morals" and teachings were written by man. Men, no different than you or me. In fact, Religion is so old, half the stuff written in it is offensive and completely immoral during the time we live in. Think of the Prophet Muhammad pedophile thing.

well taking away the burying factor the seemingly moral part about it is the "ritual" that is to be held and/or practiced by the group of animals(humans in this case) no matter what beneficial or not but also doing so as a means to honor the dead in a respectful manner of tradition instead of just moving dead bodies around all willy nilly and tossing them wherever

why do humans bury bodies in the ground and make cemetaries when its not the most effective way to get rid of bodies? because to those that have loved ones - they see it as moral and im pretty sure all humans practice some sort of way to honor the dead so we would all agree it is a moral thing to do within each communities own respective religious beliefs and divisions

why isnt there a census though? people have been getting married for a while now for moral reasons
