no, youre ignoring that we see the results of religion in our day to day lives... I dont have to be a chemist to know that poison is dangerous...
Most of the things that we see as a result of religion we either don't notice or take for granted.
Even with All the mass murders and fukkery that religion has caused
( really caused by human motivations of power and greed - but for the sake of this convo we can pretend it was religion).... Even with all the dumb things we have due to being in a religious world, we have gained so much because from religion.
Look at the majority of people who brought freedom and civil rights to the world and especially America. we should be glad these people were suffering from the mental illness of believing in God and actually used that a basis in their belief and motivation to go against the grain to sacrifice for rights.
If I was an atheist and I didn't truly understand humans or history , I guess I would also assume that some of the things I enjoy from my society and culture has came from religion.
To put it in term u all can understand (
considering the fact that atheist = scientist)... the evolution of human thinking and society has advanced sorta like natural selection.
If we are early humans and there's a group that has ideas based on organization, family, structure, discipline, morals, and faith/hope.... and you have whatever alternatives to chose from... Which one do you choose to advance your species as a whole. I think the choice of obvious and still is. The choice may not be as relevant in 2013, but to completely Hate the choice we made as humans, is to ignore everything we enjoy today as a result of the choices we've made. We can't say that religion has held us back because we have nothing to based that sh1t on; All we have is history that teaches us that religious people have made the majority of the advancements in science, art, technology, and sociology - and the advancements made by non-religious people were all made in the framework of things supported and created by religious people/institutions.
