Slavemasters tried to do that in the 19th century, but that failed miserably and the majority of Africans in North America remained un-Baptized until they were freed at the end of the Civil War. If you doubt what I'm saying, take a look at the 1860 Census. Only 1% of the (approx.) 4 million African/'Black' slaves in the Nation were Christians.
