I'm open to that possibility (as I mentioned in the OG post), but isn't it being a little intellectually dishonest to say that you're positively absolutely sure that it's a fact?

To me its the other way around. Its dishonest to say this all came about out of nothing, especially considering how little we know scientifically about the Universe. And despite this we are always forced to dismiss right off the bat that there is Creator, seems like there's an agenda being driven home here.:birdman:

i just think this is some alter experience created from some small section of our consciousness. it's almost like being a Sim except you have control. when i was a kid i loved playing the sims...i tried playing it the other day and damn near got depressed. wake up, work, talk to people, shyt, eat, go through the motions, strive for some shyt, get some money....then poof...it's over. this is a very intense experience/ride/path and we've been given a long list of potential outcomes (door #1-1million ) and we just have to have fun with it. do what hasn't been done because too many people are doing the same thing. if it's true that you only live once, you have to admit...this is one hell of a ride...

I'm an atheist (atheist/agnostic meaning I reject man written fairytales attributed to "God" or Gods but I'm open to the concept and my mind is subject to change if some real evidence becomes available) myself so this isn't a snark thread.

I'm mostly okay with that concept although there are certain times where I'm thinking about it and I'm kinda feeling like ...damn, that sucks.

At the same time I wouldn't want to live forever in an afterlife kissing some dudes ass.... (but regardless of what I want or don't want there's no real evidence of an afterlife in the way it's described in religion)

What happens to a star when it burns out? That's just it for that poor star? No star heaven? :noah:

Kinda makes everything we do now a waste of time, I don't give a sh1t about instinctive animal sh1t like passing on my genes or creating a legacy so people can remember me after I'm gone (There's no point since those who remember you will eventually die and those who remember them will eventually die and so on...)

outside of irrelevant goals we set for ourselves that don't really mean sh1t (School, work, hobbies, taking care of kids u don't want, entertainment, chasing hoes, drugs or whatever ur particular vice is) there's no reason not to commit that. (but I also guess there's no reason to do it if u don't want to also)

:shaq2:

I'm not depressed or anything, this is just real spit tho

:manny:

Ya'l brainwashed religious folks just don't know how good yal got it sometimes. The Bible/Quran has every answer you'll ever need about everything and everything will just work out fine if you just follow that path. I wish I could join ur team but it's too late.

:noah:

Since you're a man of science, wheres the scientific proof. Considering the dimensions and spectrums of life that are invisible to the human eye how can you be so confident.

I truly and honestly could give a shyt. I love my life and am extremely content. :yeshrug:

My worst fears about dying are the process being painful, and the pain people around me who love me will feel, and how they will handle my death and move on without me.

When I die, I will just be gone. It will be just like it was before I was ever born.

confident of what exactly?

my only stance is that man made religion is fairytales. And I'm pretty confident of that because many of the stuff written within "holy books" contradicts what we know to be true about the world in the many fields of science.

That's it.

as far as what @kickz was speaking on, I'm honest enough to admit I don't know.

not an atheist. but roger ebert's essay on this gives me comfort & i think he's pretty much on point
I do not fear death - Salon.com

"I don’t expect to die anytime soon. But it could happen this moment, while I am writing. I was talking the other day with Jim Toback, a friend of 35 years, and the conversation turned to our deaths, as it always does. “Ask someone how they feel about death,” he said, “and they’ll tell you everyone’s gonna die. Ask them, In the next 30 seconds? No, no, no, that’s not gonna happen. How about this afternoon? No. What you’re really asking them to admit is, Oh my God, I don’t really exist. I might be gone at any given second.

Many readers have informed me that it is a tragic and dreary business to go into death without faith. I don’t feel that way. “Faith” is neutral. All depends on what is believed in. I have no desire to live forever. The concept frightens me. I am 69, have had cancer, will die sooner than most of those reading this. That is in the nature of things."

Confident that when you die, there is nothing. That your makeup and existence is completely obliterated. I dont think thats something you can prove. But you'll get all the proof you need, one day.

If you're gonna try and clown me, you might wanna make sure you spell everything correctly. Saying 'I don't believe in religion' is retarded......especially since you can't define it.

You must have drank too much fluoride this morning, b. Have some Liquid-Life Energy™ and go meditate on a pyramid built by aliens.

i cant fukk with know it alls breh. you are educated in neurosciences and quite possibly stuck in ur way of thinking and the opinion of anybody with less than a college education does not count to u and will not sway u unless i get a nikka with a doctorate in neuroscience to back up my claims.

im into buddhism and i happen to share in this belief of theirs with good reason. i dont think i have to physically prove anything to anyone. hell i know i could be wrong but thats the difference between u and me. buddhism teaches that we are in reality all ignorant fools because nobody knows shyt about shyt. even scientific data can someday be proven wrong by undiscovered and unknown variables. but the fool that admits that he is a fool is a thousand times smarter than the fool who does not.

Yeah. You're an idiot.

I asked you simply what a spirit was and where its located and all you can do is say that you want to equate buddhism to the burden of proof.

WE WOULD LOVE TO DISCOVER THAT THIS THING CALLED A SOUL/SPIRIT EXISTS

Any new knowledge is GAINED knowledge.

But you're not showing anything. You're not an idiot for believing in this shyt. You're an idiot for not proving anything you're saying.

Believe what yall want but I can't help but think what the fukkk is the point if I am just gonna be dirt at the end? Why stuggle or give a sh*t if my wealth/family isn't gonna carry over? And then there's the idea that I am supposed to believe all of existence happened by some grand roll of the dice/accident. :mjpls:

Not for me brehs.:whoa:

And I ain't saying organized religon is the answer, all I am saying is I do believe there is One God.

So the hindus are wrong?

If you're SAYING THERE IS ONE GOD, you need to substantiate that.

and who said existence is a roll of the dice? Whats wrong with believing that? Things are pretty fukked up as is. Are you saying you're overlooking that and saying its still "created?"

lol, The project I'm working on in conjunction with writing 'writing', is beyond anything that you could do - that can warrant you trying to correct my spelling on a damn forum.

I'm not on that fluoride and alien stuff, not one of those people... but idk why your trying to clown those people. The fluoride thing has evidence and statistically aliens must exist. Pyramids were built solely by black excellence and meditation is great with many health and mental benefits.

And religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to the supernatural, and to spirituality. So because I just defined it - does that make you retarded by default?? :pachaha:

Dude is a contrarian and just likes to disagree for the sake of disagreeing.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have an actual opinion on the subject other than "Everybody else is wrong...but I don't feel like telling you why :troll: ".

I have a logical position and backed it up with proof and evidence. The most you were able to say about it was 'Just because you don't think it means anything doesn't mean it doesn't.'

:aicmon:

I disagree with dogma. End of story. If you have something to say about my position, say it. Don't be a p*ssy and hide behind a label as soon as I start critiquing your position.....or should I say 'lack of position'.
