This was the same company in 2012 that was once bold enough to call out the hypocrisy of the American Revolution, Founding Fathers, and all the romanticized Tea Party BS that was circling at that time. Even goes out of their way to highlight this when Connor calls out dudes like Samuel Adams and even has him witness chattel slavery happen before his eyes along with his village displaced.

They easily could have said "these games are all historical fiction/fantasy, get over yourself, play it or don't" and ended things right there...but that's not going to happen. Marketing, consultant firms, focus groups, none of them would go for it because it kills their own industry. So you get the half-hearted gestures you get. The only way their needle gets moved is through shareholders.
